GeForce RTX 3060 in February

NVIDIA announces the GeForce RTX 3060 is due in late February to offer the new 12 GB variant in the line. They say these will start at USD$329.00. The list specs saying they will sport 3584 CUDA cores, a 1.78 GHz boost clock, a 1.32 base clock, and 12 GB of GDDR6 RAM on a 192-bit memory interface. Here's their announcement:
For desktop PC gaming, NVIDIA announced the latest addition to the GeForce RTX family--the GeForce RTX 3060. Priced starting at $329, the RTX 3060 has twice the raster performance and 10x the ray-tracing performance of the GTX 1060, making it a formidable upgrade opportunity for the 90% of GeForce gamers still gaming on a GTX GPU. It will be available in late February.

10x the ray-tracing performance of the GTX 1060
I didn't realize my pokey little 1060 could do ray tracing at all.

Cool, I'll be able to get a new video card for a reasonable price in about 2023 at this rate.

It's seriously out of control. I actually saw my first 6800XT that was actually in stock in Ontario and it was $400 over MSRP. Saw a 3090 in stock and they were asking $2800 for it. Almost 3 grand for a video card? Are you fucking kidding me. My first car I ever bought when I was 18 was a 1970 Volvo that I got for $650 bucks and that car was fucking amazing. If an asshole didn't drive into it, it would still be going today.

It's worth noting that NVIDIA says they'll also be enabling resizable BAR with the drivers coming along with the 3060 release. That's the generic term for what AMD calls 'Smart Access Memory,' the free 5-15% performance uplift in certain games they pretended was some proprietary voodoo engineered between their own products.

That's kind of been my rule of thumb. Skip a gen and go the following year or the year after. I have a 2070 and my bottleneck is my i7-6700k. So, I will be upgrading my proc to a Ryzen 5800x in the spring. I'll most likely wait for NVidia's 5k cards with this proc upgrade.

I needed to upgrade anyway - old machine dated from 2015. The new one is running a 3070 and it sure is fast although it's difficult to separate the card upgrade from the overall system.

Yeah, you guys already covered every response I could come up with ....
The marketing & announcing constantly for all these cards coming out *( in huge air quotes)* .. that mostly only bots/ scalpers can get is ludicrous !

The storefronts/vendors don't care who the buyers are and hold no allegiance to individual gamers.
Minor/scalper/person, they're all the same.

That's just crazy, it's the bitcoin miners who are buying all these cards at any price. It helps them make 10k + a month and that's on the low end.
All the vendors have to do is make a list, like forming a line in a store. Then any new "PO Box delivery addresses" would be verified individually.
The vendors could setup a "cross reference" of PO Box delivery addresses, only. No names or any other identifying info, because PO Box delivery
addresses are the key to how they get away with it, iirc. Internally they already check, home address with credit card info.

We can be delayed 1 or 2 weeks while they verify accounts to get a card, instead of never getting one.

Chances of getting one of these at all, and for the actual MSRP... ZERO

1080 standard vs 3060? Any benchmarks anywhere?

I upgraded from a 1060 3gb to a 3060ti (was lucky enough to get one) and on the single benchmark I ran, Doom Eternal went from 83 fps to 297 fps at 1080p so that should give you some indication. The 3060ti is really fast, I can run most games at 4k60. Add in DLSS and it's probably 4-5 times faster than a 1060.

Cheaper, lower speed memory. 360.0 GB/s for the 3060, 448.0 GB/s for the 3070, 760.3 GB/s for the 3080.

The alternative is to throw out some of the chips which don't meet the specs of better cards, so... I doubt that's what you really want.

That's not how the industry operates mate. Nvidia gains absolutely nothing from the higher prices because it has already sold to the vendors. Only ones profiting from higher prices are scalpers.

Hey Blue,

I think you cut off the end of the announcement when you pasted it:

It will be available in late February 2022.
