Indeed. If they only had problems after a 8 GB save file, the question would be -- why the hell is your save file 8 GB? Heck even my largest Factorio save is under 1 GB.

Keeping save files below 8gb is easy. Don't keep tens of thousands of crafting mats & consumable items in your inventory lol. Sell off what crafting mats you don't need (they go for a decent rate actually) as well as the 800 consumables in your inventory if you're one of those people that picks up everything.
Well they've fixed the 8MB corruption problem, so the next question is: Is there still massive slowdown after 6MB save file size? Was there ever, or was that a reddit rumor, etc.
My saves are at 4.54 MB, and I've sold pretty much everything I'm not actually using, I guess I'll sell materials next if it starts really taking a long time, but it seems like a counter for a material type shouldn't dramatically increase file size. I still think items are NOT timing out correctly after being sold to vendors, either NPC vendors or the Kiosk vendors.
That or items dropped in the world by dead enemies sometimes never expire, etc.
I'm tempted to stop doing side quests and just finish the main quest, just in case. But the side quests have a ton of actual story content, surprisingly.

There's clearly a bug with the crafting system somewhere.

Oh man, no, Quinn.

Fanboy, although uncalled for, is not *all*.
You are selectively omitting the final part of the offending deleted comment.
And that is a pattern with you in other comment removals, where most see the problem but you don't.
Should make you think.
And you and jdreyer stop mentioning that Ole Eagle Rare Witch Brew already !
( Can't buy that venom here *stalks off in a huff* )

Quinn, really, why comment with gratuitous disparagements ?
Christmas well wishing and all that, man !
You're right. That was a bit snarky and a reminder that I should do the world a favor and start drinking early this week! I've an unopened Eagle Rare with my name on it, calling me home.
Do you get hit with a big import tax for something like that?
You tell me. I bought it for 34,50 euros.
I'm more surprised to see my original comment was removed. Let it be known for all on-lookers that my entire fucking comment (with an actual solid point made in there) was removed for simply suggesting someone was a fanboy. That's it. Fanboy. Let that detonate in all of your brains for a second.
Not sure why I still post or come here. Probably because I've come here for the last 20 years. I'm a creature of habit, I guess...

I tested that hypothesis... Turns out it's pure bullshit.
Savegame file size before: 4.7MB
Fired up cheatengine, gave myself 1 million of all components, both for items and quickhacks.
Savegame file size after: 4.7MB
Then did a few gigs, filesize went up .2MB.
Crafted about a hundred various stuff, sold all of them ( inventory back to where it was before crafting them ), filesize went up .3MB.
Then decided to test the money, gave myself a few millions, filesize remained the same.
There's clearly a bug with the crafting system somewhere.

8 MB is a massive file size. No wonder they couldn’t handle it........
I've seen much bigger, felt much bigger.

As alluded to in other posts, the fact they felt it necessary to limit the file size to 8MB is not a good sign. It certainly doesn't increase my confidence in the quality of the coding...

Seems like they could clean up some inv management things so creating items like this doesn't bloat the save file size as well as patching the exploit out all together. Maybe they did and didn't list it.
When someone gives themselves 9,999,999 of an item, no amount of optimizing how things are store will reduce the file size. The people doing this created an edge case situation, and even more so if they play on a platter drive instead of an SSD. CDPR's move to quickly fix the issue is quite gracious.
