Cyberpunk 2077 Hotfix Removes Save File Size Limit

A new version 1.06 hotfix is now available for Cyberpunk 2077 (thanks ConsoleGenRL). This fixes a bug with the Second Conflict Quest, improves memory management and stability on consoles, and addresses the problem caused by PC saved games that grow larger than 8 MB, though as previously noted, there is no repairing previously corrupted saved game files. Here are the patch notes:
Hotfix 1.06 is available on PC and consoles! Here is the full list of changes:

Quests

  • Dum Dum will no longer go missing from Totentanz entrance during Second Conflict.

Console-specific

  • Improved memory management and stability, resulting in fewer crashes.

PC-specific

  • Removed the 8 MB save file size limit. Note: this won’t fix save files corrupted before the update.

Uh, yeah. If you read all my comments in this topic you would have seen I knew that -- you can almost figure out from that post alone.

Keeping save files below 8gb is easy. Don't keep tens of thousands of crafting mats & consumable items in your inventory lol. Sell off what crafting mats you don't need (they go for a decent rate actually) as well as the 800 consumables in your inventory if you're one of those people that picks up everything.

Well they've fixed the 8MB corruption problem, so the next question is: Is there still massive slowdown after 6MB save file size? Was there ever, or was that a reddit rumor, etc.

My saves are at 4.54 MB, and I've sold pretty much everything I'm not actually using, I guess I'll sell materials next if it starts really taking a long time, but it seems like a counter for a material type shouldn't dramatically increase file size. I still think items are NOT timing out correctly after being sold to vendors, either NPC vendors or the Kiosk vendors.

That or items dropped in the world by dead enemies sometimes never expire, etc.

I'm tempted to stop doing side quests and just finish the main quest, just in case. But the side quests have a ton of actual story content, surprisingly.

tbh 'the game is slow in general' is somewhat indistinguishable from the 'this game kinda runs like jank in general' at this point

If you're lucky, your slowness wont fall into the category of in the infamous "Dragon Age 2 Isabela Slowdown" problem, in which a bug where Isabela's increased attack speed buff, was incorrectly applied/removed each time you added/removed her from the party, meaning you could get into the game significantly, and not realize your attack speed had been debuffed 10000%

Just playing teh game without crafting like you have a hoarder problem, was getting people in the 4-5MB range. People were rightly concerned they might hit the 8MB range especially when there was no real understanding of how to reliably

It also didn't help that the Witcher3 had a very similar problem meaning people were very concerned about if they'd hit the same problem on 2 different games.

It had to do with higher level items which have multiple random attributes, and people that left their machines macro-crafting for hours. Probably any buffer that was allocated to keep track of those got saved, even when emptied.

You refer to the talking to a wall part? Interesting that that warrants the removal of the entire comment. But whatever.

As for the Eagle Rare, mine is the 70cl version for 34,50 so it's much the same price! I am happy for this because most Europeans that drink whiskey like scotch and not bourbon. I'm all for bourbon though. Oh, btw, I forgot to mention that the 34,50 was during a holiday sale. Normally Eagle Rage 70cl is 43,50. That price, taking into account the import tax etc, makes more sense.

Psst, I bought 4 bottles during the sale Had to promise the lady that I keep the other 3 bottles behind lock and key and not drink them like I'd drink my Four Roses xD

You're right. That was a bit snarky and a reminder that I should do the world a favor and start drinking early this week! I've an unopened Eagle Rare with my name on it, calling me home.

Do you get hit with a big import tax for something like that?

You tell me. I bought it for 34,50 euros.

I'm more surprised to see my original comment was removed. Let it be known for all on-lookers that my entire fucking comment (with an actual solid point made in there) was removed for simply suggesting someone was a fanboy. That's it. Fanboy. Let that detonate in all of your brains for a second.

I guess it depends on the size. 375ml is about $20US, while 750ml is $32.

Anecdotally I sell all my trash to the dropboxes and not the NPC vendors, and I haven't seen too much save file bloat. Still under 4MB with dozens of hours on the save.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

I tested that hypothesis... Turns out it's pure bullshit.

Savegame file size before: 4.7MB

Fired up cheatengine, gave myself 1 million of all components, both for items and quickhacks.

Savegame file size after: 4.7MB

Then did a few gigs, filesize went up .2MB.

Crafted about a hundred various stuff, sold all of them ( inventory back to where it was before crafting them ), filesize went up .3MB.

Then decided to test the money, gave myself a few millions, filesize remained the same.

There's clearly a bug with the crafting system somewhere.

Well, from that description, it sounds like world changes (ie. finished gigs, crime encounters, etc.) are getting the changes saved to the save file, and items NOT disappearing from stores explains the crafting sales another file size increase.

They might not be able to fix the encounter changes save state, but they can definitely have store clean up happen, or happen faster. Hopefully that's in the patch pipeline.

People are really making a mountain over a molehill. I know it's edgy and cool and hip to hate on the popular new kid on the block, especially when that kid has serious flaws, they deserve all the hate they can get for their rushed and buggy console (and PC) release but giving them shit for keeping their save games small? When it impacts 1% of their playerbase, and it's already fixed? Shesh, some of you really need to chill....

Seems like they could clean up some inv management things so creating items like this doesn't bloat the save file size as well as patching the exploit out all together. Maybe they did and didn't list it.

When someone gives themselves 9,999,999 of an item, no amount of optimizing how things are store will reduce the file size. The people doing this created an edge case situation, and even more so if they play on a platter drive instead of an SSD. CDPR's move to quickly fix the issue is quite gracious.

To a database/storage 0 or 9,999,999 make very little difference, 6 bytes in fact. X = 9,999,999 good! Or a wrong way to do this is to insert X 9,999,999 times, yes that will bloat horrendously it would be whatever each item takes to store in bytes x 9,999,999. Lets say that is 10 bytes per item, that would be 99,999,999 vs 7 bytes and that is just one item, wrong.

Some say the bloat is because when you sell to a vendor it inserts and keeps that in their inventory and the save has to keep that, I have not checked to know that as fact.
