CD PROJEKT RED on Cyberpunk 2077 on Last-Gen Consoles

A tweet from CD PROJEKT RED expresses apologies for the poor performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (thanks Simon). They outline what's being done about this and offer refunds to dissatisfied customers for the next week:
Dear gamers,

First of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Second, we will fix bugs and crashes, and improve the overall experience. The first round of updates has just been released and the next one is coming within the next 7 days. Expect more, as we will update frequently whenever new improvements are ready. After the holidays, will continue working will release two large patches starting with Patch #1 in January. This will be followed by Patch #2 in February. Together these should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles. We will be informing you about the contents of each patch ahead of their release. They won't make the game on last-gen look like its running on a high-spec PC or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.

Finally, we would always like everyone who buys our games to be satisfied with their purchase. We would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don't want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy. For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at helpmerefund@cdprojektred.com and we will do our best to help you. Starting from today, you can contact us for a week up until December 21st, 2020.

Humbly
Marcin Iwiński, Adam Kiciński, Adam Badowski, Michal Nowakowski, Pio Nielubowicz, Piotr Karowski

PS. PC gamers will also be getting regular updates and fixes improving the game.

I will be interested in seeing a post-mortem on development as it relates to both supply-chain issues related to manufacture and distribution - and how remote working impacted the last year of development. Having the game drop with the next gen consoles, new PC V/C hardware combined with a pandemic and hype - a perfect storm.

Other than the Visuals not being up to par compared to the PC... Sony and Microsoft have to take quite a bit if the blame since the performance and bugs are so poor on their platforms. They're supposed to vette what gets released on their consoles. Obviously they wanted the cash grab, too.

Friends of mine that are playing on PC have little to no issues.... mostly freshly built rigs, though.

Honestly, this creating a game on new gen console vs old gen is stupid. Aside from them having to really minimize their vision just so it can run on a potato is stupid when you think about how angry those players will be. It's like, of course it won't be up to expectations as to what was advertised. They're not going to advertise the game looking like shiieet even if that is what to be expected playing on last gen.

As a PC gamer, you already know, if your PC is not up to par, you aren't going to be running it on high. You know that all the screenshots and expectations of what you watched/saw are shown maxed out but most likely won't be ran on your rig looking like that unless you have the hardware to do so. We except that out the gate.

Console gamers on the other hand because they're locked down with a piece of hardware sitting under their TV stand, they feel powerless in what they have in front of them. Thus the anger ensues. They're pretty much trying to watch 4K movies with a bluray player at this point...

Here's something really crazy. The only truly honest review of the current state of the game is Worth A Buy, and his video is now being censored. It will not come up on a Google search. You have to go directly to his channel on youtube to watch it. He recently released a follow-up video about the situation. The Internet is really turning into a big pile of fake news. It favors fake over facts. Ugh

Here's Mack's (pc) review (which is actually quite funny, particularly the rating segment at the end. He does it that way to try not to butt-hurt the fanboys lol):

How is this the only "honest" review?
Plenty of reviews gave it not great scores, or did you not see all the outrage over it getting below 10s?

The fact that I can run this on Ultra with all bells and whistles on a machine that is 3 years old (+ a new RTX graphics card) just suggests to me that consoles continue to hold back the industry. I don't see why, either, considering if this game and WoW Shadowlands became the "fastest selling PC games" of all time, I would think that there would be a developer out there willing to develop PC only games and start pushing the boundaries again. Not that I think Cyberpunk 2077 didn't push some boundaries (immersion) but the tech isn't that incredible. The funniest low-tech thing I observed in CP77 were vehicles from a high rise, just like a fleet of funny looking pixel cars all over the places like ants.

Yes, I've seen the outrage from the fanboys, but I'm talking about how Mack reviews the game, not score wise. In fact, scores mean shit, especially on 1 to 10 scale. I mean, seriously, is anything under a score of 7 good? So why even have a 1, 2, 3, 4.5, 5, 6, 6.5? lol

Because not all things are good?

Plus while a general gamer may not want to pick up a 6 title, fans of the IP/genre might be more willing to tolerate a game’s flaws and still consider picking it up.

I find value in the numbers - 1 is an awful game, 3 is bad, 5 is mediocre, etc. Do many games get those scores? No, but I don't see why that means anything, other than most studios have some quality control.

The argument I usually see about not having scores is that people will just look at the number and not read the article. While I get that argument, if I'm interested in reviews of something (anything really), I tend to check out some good reviews, bad reviews, etc. If they don't give it a score, then I just don't end up checking out their review. Since there are so many reviews out there, the score is just a convenient way to bucket it.

Well, they never should have released it for the older generation consoles. That was a pure money grab. The game will never be able to run on those platforms with any sort of consistency.

The minimum PC specs are of the same vintage as Xbox One and PS4, which is 2013 hardware. So I would expect the old consoles to run as smoothly as an i5 3570K with GTX 780. Here's a guy running that exact setup with Cyberpunk: https://youtu.be/xQwZg1CmxSk Allthumbsup

So many people are firmly behind corporate censorship ("It's not censorship unless it's the government, man..."), never dreaming that their own opinions and speech will be the next to go. Like Robespierre to the guillotine, they are shocked that the monster they created has turned on them.

In fairness to Mack, I have no idea on his stance about social media and search engine censorship, and I'm not advocating he be censored. I just find it funny that some of his fans are all butthurt about his review being hidden (not directing this at you), but have no problem demanding that anyone else that doesn't agree with their opinions be memory-holed tout suite! As if anyone can be trusted to decide what is and isn't allowable...

What constitutes fake news? Anything that doesn't align with your political and/or religious world view? And if he was being censored his account would be banned and all his videos removed. Get a grip.

Of course it's a money grab, literally the entire multi-platform industry is still grabbing for that money from the 150M+ old console audience. In case you've forgotten, this game was announced in 2012, so it's not like this was a last-second gambit, they were always planning to release there. Clearly they dropped the ball at some point along the way when their goalposts shifted to support newer PC hardware and soon the new consoles, but if the alternative is to just scrap all the work they put into those versions and give up 40% of their sales (pre-orders)... Can't say I blame them for cobbling together what they could.
