on Bloomberg (may require registration or subscription) says that CD PROJEKT will give the development team for
Cyberpunk 2077 their full bonuses, despite bugs and launch issues with the
sci-fi RPG. The company was planning on basing bonuses on critical response to
the game, but they are accepting responsibility for the rushed crunch that
proceeded the game's launch, and will not be penalizing the team for how this
affected reviews. Here's a bit:
Cyberpunk 2077, which came out Thursday, is one of the year’s biggest games and a monumental release for the Polish publisher, which only makes new titles every few years. The sci-fi role-playing game sold more than 8 million copies in pre-orders before launch and has been acclaimed for its mechanics and story, but slammed for the number of glitches and bugs. As of Friday, Cyberpunk 2077 had a 90 out of 100 on the review aggregation website Metacritic -- a strong score that has nonetheless disappointed shareholders. If that score dips below 90, it may no longer meet the threshold that CD Projekt had originally set for bonus payouts.
“We initially had a bonus system that was focused on the game’s ratings and the release date, but after consideration, we believe that measure is simply not fair under the circumstances,” wrote Adam Badowski, studio head and creative director for Cyberpunk 2077, in the email to staff. “We underestimated the lengths and complexity involved to make this a reality, and still you did everything you could to deliver an ambitious, special game.”

Functionally its a way to tell the truth, but be lying. I guarantee whatever 'bonus' structure they had allocated, and yes you do have to allocate these bonuses as part of your budgeting, were already obliterated by the 6 day work week increase and all the other nonsense they've done. Meaning that they're all probably getting some utter pittance of a 'bonus'.
Oh remember that crunch? Yeah its still going. Do you think anyone on the core engine team is even allowed to go home with all the face melting bugs across 6 platforms? They're gonna be working on bugs, console certification, etc until 2021.
"Hey so like you know how our utter failure in project management over 6 years caused you to crunch for years, enforce fake 6 day work weeks we were already making you doing, and also hey you gotta work through Christmas and New Years because of all the bugs and stuff? Here's like $100 gift card 'bonus'.
Well quite the guesses you have going on there, I'll go the other way and say they will get a worthwhile bonus and not something like a front line worker gets, it will be more of what professional bonuses look like. Lets see if something leaks.

They worked bloody hard over 7 years, especially towards the end and are continuing to work hard now to improve the game. They deserve all the bonuses they can get. Well done to the team on an epic game!

They had better pay full bonuses for as much money as this game will make them.
