Cyberpunk 2077 Launches

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for Windows, offering the chance to play CD PROJEKT RED's eagerly anticipated sci-fi role-playing game. You can find where to pick this up on the official website and there's more support for the launch on GOG.com. Here's the previously released Launch Trailer and here's a refresher in case you've been sleeping in the Matrix:
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.

Sounds promising Drayth. I'm a bit concerned with the reports of bullet sponginess. When I eventually get to play I was hoping to create an assassin-like character that can take down enemies (preferably) from stealth using silenced handguns, with deadly headshots. When that turns to shit go melee, slow down time and hack em to death with Matrix like moves...Hope that's a thing

That's exactly how I'm playing, and as someone else pointed out, it's very much like Deus Ex:HR. Playing at Hard (2nd highest difficulty), I'm about 25 hours in and I have a stealth/shooter build I'm really enjoying it; even without any skills in melee, from stealth I can definitely one shot most enemy npcs (I actually nearly dropped a boss in one hit from stealth with a katana). The bullet-sponginess really doesn't feel like a thing to me unless I'm shooting center of mass with an assault rifle/submachine gun (and given how heavily modded some npcs are this is NO surprise), but a headshot will usually take off 90% of an npc's health from stealth, and 10-20% (silenced pistol), a revolver or sniper rifle will definitely one shot from stealth and usually the same within combat.

The timed responses thing annoyed me at first but after a few missed ones, I can generally react with the option I want in time and they fit the context really well (reacting to an NPC roughing V up, etc...). I'm running a 1070ti and a 2790 i7, and it looks quite pretty, but I did turn shadows down (and all shadow related settings), as I did with reflections. I still get texture pop with cars (which looks very bizarre, you'll see what looks like a piece of popcorn kinda scoot by on the road before it resolves into a car). Speaking of cars, I rarely if ever use one, since fast travel exists and I honestly have more fun running around looking at the scenery, picking a fight with random npcs, or just exploring.

I have experienced exactly one crash, but there are the random weird graphical bug, usually unselectable items/objects that I should be able to pickup or interact with; I get the fly-away bug randomly as well where I suddenly zoom to a location 200 meters away from where I was. Yeah it definitely has bugs, but after looking at some of the steam reviews (I know, always a mistake), I am wondering if we're playing the same game, I am not sure if people are trolling or genuine, because several of the things I repeatedly hear (bullet sponginess, lack of meaningful choices, or lack of things to interact with), are untrue.

Have you ever played ARMA? That game has a shit ton of binds. When I re-bind keys, I never forget what key does what. I play ARMA with friends regularly, and they all use the default keys. If we take a break from it for a while, at least one or more always has to look up something.

It's common with people with handicaps. Sometimes there are games that are causal enough I get everything bound to the mouse.

If a game doesn't have iron sites, a lot of times I like to rebind RMB to dodge/tuck etc if that is a strong mechanic in game.

I believe RMB to move forward was default in Wolfenstein and/or Doom. That's how I started using it. WASD/ESDF and similar controls are uncomfortable for me to use. Not only that, it ties all of your movement to one hand, so when you need to press another key, you always have to take your hand away from the movement keys.

I still use RMB as move forward, space to move back, S & D for strafe. My hand is relaxed on the home row, not in some cramped claw like position hovering over WASD. I can tell my hand is in the right place without looking because the F key has a notch on it. This frees up my left finger and pinky to push other buttons while still having a finger on every move key. I've been doing this since Quake.

Well... from the game-play videos I've watched on youtube going through the first few missions... it doesn't seem to happen very often, so I think I can handle it.

It can still be a problem when they hardcore keys in special areas of menu's. But you know the power of the nostromo, good man.

You'll have equal access to control/shift/alt/tab when using ESDF while having greater access to the middle of the keyboard. ESDF is superior to WASD in every way, that's why you're seeing a greater number of people changing the defaults.

I have small hands like Trump. I need keys even closer to control/shift/alt/tab. I'm kidding I have big hands that make woman blush and use a Nostromo as well, keyboard... pfff. That said I still need rebinding abilities.

Response timer? Like Alpha Protocol? I fricken hate that.

Me too. I read English as fast as I would read out loud, which is relatively slow reading speed. Dialogue timers are a real kick in the balls to people like myself. Luckily the hilarious flyting in Valhalla is easy enough

Nice, thanks, Dark, I'll mess with that tonight after work.

They either fixed it after a couple patches in Witcher 3 or I must have done that edit at some point, because I used the Number Pad in W3.

I have Cyberpunk 2077 on GOG, played about 2-3 hours last night.

But, major annoyance for me: The KEYS. You can remap MOST of the keys, but certain keys seem to be hardcoded, for certain times in the game. F is a big issue, there is no way to rebind F(Select, Open, etc.) and I cannot find it anywhere listed in the settings at all. I normally play on number pad, and move everything over to that side, but some of the nearby keys, HOME, some of the Arrow Keys, are also locked to whatever, and cannot be rebound either.

I'm currently using the default WASD, which is playable but not anywhere near optimal for me. The BrainAttack/Hacking thing also doesn't seem to like being rebound, multiple sets of scrolling left-right key groups feel like they could have been combined, etc.

What's odd is when I was on the numberpad, sometimes KP_ENTER would work as F(select, open), sometimes it would not. Extremely aggravating.

Hopefully there is either a patch or mod out eventually to remap all the keys.

Here is the fix for you, I had to go through both files. but most of the changes will be made in the inputUserMappings.xml file.

CDPR did this same bullshit with Witcher 3. SMH!!!

Edit this file, its in the AppData folder, its a hidden folder.

UserSettings.json in the folder C:/Users/%USERNAME%/AppData/Local/CD Projekt RED/Cyberpunk 2077 (replace %USERNAME% with your Windows username)

inputUserMappings.xml in the folder C:/Games/Cyberpunk 2077/r6/config (or wherever you installed the game)

If it get the job done..

WASD is where my muscle memory resides, my keyboard came with “special” colored replacement keys for wasd if you wanted to swap them out.

It’s ridiculous that keybinding is still an issue in 2020.
But as others have mentioned AutoHotkey can fix that issue.

I have Cyberpunk 2077 on GOG, played about 2-3 hours last night.

I didn't encounter any major bugs as far as I could tell, no crashes and it runs reasonably well on my i7-6700K, 4GHz, 32GB ram, M2 SSD, GTRX1070(!), except I noticed a bit of slowdown during the driving and shooting out of the window parts. I have Film Grain and Bloom turned off, volumetric fog turned down to medium, every other setting is on High or Ultra. Walking around in the city with tons of NPCs doesn't give any noticeable lag, but I have not checked the actual FPS.

But, major annoyance for me: The KEYS. You can remap MOST of the keys, but certain keys seem to be hardcoded, for certain times in the game. F is a big issue, there is no way to rebind F(Select, Open, etc.) and I cannot find it anywhere listed in the settings at all. PS. Playing as a male Nomad on Hard difficulty, melee and stealth seem strong to the point of being overpowered currently, and I had my guy setup(barely) for guns. You can instakill or disable same or near level enemies from behind, and sneaking or sneaking + hacking distraction means you can get the drop on quite a few people. Conversely, at least so far with my shit armor, trying to stand and fight against random trash gets me shot to death in seconds. Cover is required, which is okay I guess.
