Pressing the play button before the official release date will pop up this image instead of the game, as shared by Reddit user jmendo02.
The image is pulled from the E3 2019 trailer's surprise junkyard ending, where we met Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand for the first time. The subtitle is a reference to that famous moment too: instead of "Wake the f#$% up, Samurai. We have a city to burn," it's "Go back to sleep, Samurai. It's not December 10th yet!"

Looks like PC Gamer gave this game only a 78 score. They site tons a bugs as the main reason.
Bummer....though all the delays should have hinted at it being buggy pile on release day, regardless of what the PR Department claimed. On the reassuring side, bugs can and will be fixed, cd projekt red is a dedicated enough dev to see this through.

Wow so 57 GB download initially and I'm hearing about a 43 GB patch on release day? Damn. Why are patches so inefficient? The replacing more than 70% of the game.
Really depends on what they are patching. If they are patching assets as well as general code, then patch sizes can easily equal (and sometimes exceed) original file size.
In this case, I do feel that this Day 1 patch is probably going to be far heavier on optimization fixes than underlying code fixes....but we'll see.
The reported 43GB patch was on Xbox, my guess it's that's already folded into the PC pre-load. IF it had any relevance to the PC version. But yeah, there will still be an update on release day.

Game eats GPUs for breakfast...
Btw, those recommended specs? They were for 30 FPS @ MEDIUM settings.
Who the heck in their right mind plays a first person shooter @ 30 fps in 2020?

Follow up. It took 16 minutes with 30-50 second pauses between bursts of download activity maxing out my 1Gb connection. I'm guessing Steam is encrypting the game in chunks. Also, it says there is an update available but hitting the up arrow on it causes it to pause and then move right back to update available status.
Overon wrote on Dec 7, 2020, 17:27:It's a compressed 57 gigs, which then decompressed to something higher. Around 75 gig I'm told.
We should all wait for the Game of the Year edition when they fix the immersion breaking bugs.
Also how big is the Steam preload. I don't pre-order digital goods.

I was going to wait for my 3090 to be shipped before I play this but I want to play it before 2022.

PC Gamer routinely gives games that are 'buggy messes' a 100% score. So in this case, I'm willing to bet this is more about getting clicks, than an actual review. Dollars to Donuts the review will get 'updated' around launch, noting 'day 1 patch fixed a lot of our issues'.
