Dragon Age Appearing at Next Week's Game Awards

Geoff Keighley tweets that EA will be showing off the next Dragon Age game at next week's Game Awards: "Don't miss a special look at the next DRAGON AGE from @bioware during #TheGameAwards next Thursday." In other news related to the game, there's a note from Christian Dailey on the BioWare Blog responding to yesterday's news that Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah have left BioWare. Christian talks about taking the reins of the project: "Obviously stepping into this role on Dragon Age after Mark is a bit humbling. Mark is someone that I look up to and is a true BioWare legend. We all hope to make him proud as we look to deliver the best Dragon Age story yet, otherwise we know we’ll hear about it…." There's more on the game on Kotaku where they report on a Twitter outburst by Dragon Age voice actor Greg Ellis on Mark Darrah's along with indications that this makes it likely Ellis will no longer be working on the series. This all makes it seem appropriate that EA says that today is Dragon Age Day. They offer a community celebration of the occasion on a the Dragon Age Website.

Good to hear on the Quest 2, I'll probably wait one more gen before going into wireless, but maybe not.

I'd be down for a story focused on the Qunari. They're the most interesting group in The series.

Sarcastic or? Personally I think they are the worst group. Heartless, arrogant conquerors who enforce their own ridiculously primal warrior beliefs and ethics upon all the cultures they dominate in their proverbial rape of them.

I know a few people that have the same belief on the Qunari. I also happen to know these people unlike Cutter and there is a theme with them, they are more macho, look at the dark side as the right side. Sort of like we know who we are, we don't BS, just facts and results and it saddens us were are surrounded by fools sort of feeling. Nnow this doesn't really describe them, more like who they feel they want to be. The Qunari were different, where the other factions are just like regular people in normal life. So I can see the attraction.

So...basically Europeans and Americans to the Native Americans and African Slaves? Yeah I can see how that would be boring to some folks.

VR for DA would be very nice, but i don't know if it'd work, as switching between characters and pausing the action has always been a staple, as much as they've nerfed that mechanic over the titles.

But IMO i'd recommend the Quest 2, I just got it working with Virtual Desktop and I started playing Alyx yesterday wireless with no perceivable lag, i'm in awe.

Once I would be very interested, now it's just something I will eventually checkout. The only real point of interest is to warily ponder what they have learned between DA: I, and ME: A.
Considering the leadership of EA and BioWare and their track record, I assume we are 1 bomb or 2 titles away from a forgettable swan song.

Got about 1/3rd through DA 2 before calling it quits in disgust. I had realized there was no reason for warriors to exist anymore, as any arling would instead field leigons of invisible rogues super-backstabbing out of nowhere.

All of that said, more on topic, I hope Dragon Age 4 is a lot more like Dragon Age: Origins, but I expect it to be depressingly consolish and bland.

I'm afraid so, yes. In fact I'd bet real money on it if there was a bet going on. I adored Origins. It was the spiritual successor to Neverwinter Nights to me -- NWN being one of my gaming pillars of my early youth.

I hated DA2, and I really liked DA3. I don't think I'd like DA3 in this time of my life. Back then it was quieter. No kid. Low rent. Etc. Now I wouldn't stand the filler stuff. And man, DA3 really was 75% filler wasn't it...

DA4 will be less RPG and just more action. I pray that it won't be anything like any souls game though. Fuck me. Ugh.

But now that I have the Oculus Rift S (anyone on the fence about VR, GET THIS THING! It is relatively cheap and it works so goddamn great that I am proud to say a new world opened up to me at 35 freaking years old) I'd love it if they go AAA VR, Alyx style. But with swords and magic, and visceral romance scenes near campfires.

lol true.

I do like Dragon Age tho, I just hope that this next entry is next-gen, and not more cross-gen bullshit. Wake me up when cross-gen ends.

So you don't ever want to be woken up?

Any of these big name, AAA games, looking for max possible revenue, are going to be multi-platform, cross-gen, current-hardware favoring, you name it. At best you can expect a new age Crysis type game to demand nothing but the most advanced hardware, and it'll just end up being a benchmark for a year or two.

All of that said, more on topic, I hope Dragon Age 4 is a lot more like Dragon Age: Origins, but I expect it to be depressingly consolish and bland.

Not that awards shows aren't bullshit anyhow, but this is like someone showing movie previews at the Oscars or Emmys.
