My thoughts on the earth portion of the Definitive Edition, up to the satellite launch (some of these may have been in previous versions, i stopped playing when Xen released so i don't know) .

It's way too easy on normal mode.

Three things that really stood out were reduced recoil on the MP5.
I no longer miss with the crowbar - it's reach and hitbox feel larger.
The grenade toss feels better. I never used them before and now i wish I had more.

I have not made it to the Rocket Launcher yet so I don't know if it's been made easier, it needed improvement from the early access version.
If nothing has changed or any of the above is all in my mind, Some of it may be that i am now playing at 150+fps, but none of it is because I got better.

Many maps have been tweaked. So if you find yourself saying this is not the route I used to take, you're correct.
Oh yeah. It looks Great!

I initially voted for the labor of love but changed to best soundtrack. The soundtrack was truly badass and Xen took it to another level. That's not to say it doesn't deserve Labor of love as well because it clearly does.

Played Black Mesa end to end at the 1.0 launch it’s awesome. Seems like it’s better than ever now makes me want to replay.

This game sets the bar for how a remaster/remake should be. Supreme amounts of polish, expansion of interesting areas, adding little details absolutely everywhere, using the latest effects they can. The team poured their hearts into this game and it shows, and the wait was absolutely worth it.
Imagine if the Crysis Remaster had been this level of quality, if their team had the time and resources to polish Crysis to Black Mesa's level of finish. Both are seminal games, only one was a phoned-in cash-grab, while the other is an obvious labour of love.
Speaking of which, I nominated Black Mesa for the Labour of Love award in the Steam GOTY Award nominations.

Did as you, totally deserved.
Only other game I considered voting for before, was Enderal (free Steam massive Skyrim total conversion, colossal quality, in another world with its own mythos).

There's one where you have to drag/carry (wtf why can't we wear it!) a hat through the game. Paperbag
I'm gonna have to give up on the hat, worried it will make me resent the game doing it again. Puke

I got half way through the game with the hat, and the it would clip through the level into nothingness when I put it down. No earlier save game prevented it, the moment I got to the office complex it fell through the floor, chairs, tables, couches etc.... if I let it go. Even tried juggling it while opening doors/using buttons but it was too much and I abandoned it.

That was a frustrating waste of time.

It was worth it the price even before Zen was complete, such excellent work on this game.

Here's hoping Opposing Force and Blue Shift are done one day. Well hopefully while I'm alive and can still use a keyboard! Giggle

eh
Half Life 2 had you carrying the Garden Gnome.
I cheated the Rare Specimen achievement for grins. I don't play a game to carry a stupid object through the whole game for shits and grins. That's too much frustration and life is too fucking short.

I'm sure they'll be a guide to carry the hat through Zen as soon as they find out what the name of the entity is in Xen.
