I agree with most that has been said here. With that said I'm probably going to buy a 3080 or a 6800XT because of VR. VR and 4K are the only possible reason why you would even need one of these new monsters. This will be the first top tier video game card I have bought in ages.

Yep and probably the 3080 because of VR, figuring maybe April stock will be available when I do to a web page looking to buy.

Nvidia still appears to have the upper hand with VR: babeltechb 3080 vs 6800XT

I took the plunge this generation and got a 3090 as I run at 3440x1440 and use VR. Monster of a card that I hope carries me for a few years.

All these graphic card articles are flat out amusing as neither the Nvidia cards or the AMD cards are available and probably won't be until sometime next year and that is probably not January or February either.

AMD also has a mid-range card coming out to counter the 3060. If we ever get some available stock we might eventually see some needed discounts on these very over priced cards.

Lastly, even if I could afford one of these cards, I certainly cannot afford a 4k monitor at their current prices for a decent one. I think many of us will be stuck at 1440p for some time yet.

1440p with 2nd gen ray tracing is fine by me. I have no problem if I only end up being able to get 3060, until all this nonsense calms down in 2021.
Of course, I'll be pissing and moaning if I can't even snag one of these!

Obviously too early to tell, but I'm hoping an rtx3060 might be the sweet spot in terms of performance v. cost.
Actually getting one will be the real trick, especially if the article is correct and miners will want them too, ffs.

When you have a card pushing 420W it's ok to tell prospective customers why you recalled it. We're big boys, we can handle it.

When Samsung released the 840 Pro for select reviews the drives were bricking.
Almost immediately they corrected the issue in firmware and sent out new ssd's for review.
I bought one and am still using it.
