Out of the Blue

Happy birthday to one of my favorite games. Half-Life 2, Valve's first-person shooter sequel, was first released 16 years ago today on November 16, 2004. Half-Life 2 stands out for me as one of the best games ever, combining shooting, puzzles, and storytelling into a truly brilliant mix. I've replayed it several times, and I think I'm due for a return visit, as it remains fun even when you know what to expect. Today's logo celebrating the anniversary first appeared here in May of 2003. As usual, it is the creation of Walter "2" Costinak, and it was updated for our current format by Dave. Now let me see if I can remember where I left my crowbar.

Well, I left it with a note, I didn't want to get all in their face with everything going. I don't know them at all, it is several houses down the street. My wife showed me a message that someone posted on Facebook about her son loving the game and dressing as Gordon Freeman one year and appreciating it very much. So it went to a good home

Looks like about $2 per patty.
Come on JD, everything’s cheaper on the island.

What did your neighbors say?

Probably the usual:

"Get off my property."
"Who are you?!"
"The judge said you had to keep 5000 feet away from my daughter."

"No matter where you go, there you are." Buckaroo Banzai

Spooky. I was going through old books in my garage and came across the book that came with my Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition. I decided to walk it down and leave it on the porch of my neighbors house because one of the cars out front has Black Mesa bumper sticker.

This happened this morning. I had no idea it was the anniversary. Until I just read this.

I remember buying The Orange Box from a local Best Buy store with its sale. It came with Portal 1 (wow) and Counterstrike (still not into this series) which I didn't care for at first. Great bundle from Valve.

Too bad they are basically packed with sodium. Also quite a bit of saturated fat, what's up with that? Sheesh.

I loved UFO. I have the series on DVD.
I also loved the girls in the purple wigs and mini-skirts on the moon base. Like why would that be a thing?
Anyway, UFO was also one of the inspirations for X-COM so there's that!

Someone needs to make UFO into a game starring Cate Archer.

Also, apparently Wanda Ventham, Benedict Cumberbatch's mother, was in that show.

Wanda Ventham was HOT on UFO. Blouse ALWAYS unbuttoned in a delightful way. She's the one who was running around the base/studio with the commander in the time bubble episode I mentioned, trying to find the traitor and collapse the bubble before they both went insane.
