Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Again

Despite previous indications that CD PROJEKT RED was determined to release Cyberpunk 2077 on November 17th, in a new tweet they announce the game has suffered yet another delay, and is now expected on December 10th. The sci-fi RPG was originally planned to come on April 16, 2020. Then early this year it was pushed back to September 17th. Despite repeated assurances that it was on track, in June it was announced that it was being pushed back to November 17th. The development team has already had to crunch, and the game is officially gold, but word is it is still being set back by three weeks:
Hey everyone,

Today we decided to move to release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. The new release date is December 10.

The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test nine versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series S|X, PS4/Pro, compatibility on PS5, PC, Stadia)... while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.

Some of you might be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, war 'going gold', means the game is ready can be completed and has all content in it. But it doesn't mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed up by a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated.

We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in love with.

Well, that's not great, but hardly the worst 2020 news. More time for me to finish up various other SSD hogs and clean up some space.

So what you're saying is, your that kid in school who races through a test and is first to finish, loudly stacks the pages straight, lets out a big yawn and stretch, and looks around the classroom with a smug look. But the smart kids know you're a C- kind of student.

If it passed certification and "went gold", and they're not just doing a day 1 patch, that means they need to go through certification again, For MS that's a week extra given they actually play the game; for Sony that's roughly half a day given all they do is go through the TCRs (ie. does it not crash when LAN is pulled out, are the button prompts Sony Approved, etc.).

Resubmitting a title that's already passed compliance isn't all that rare for the big publishers, since they generally submit with pretty good confidence of a pass (internal and outsourced specialist test shops and all) plus a history of good submissions can allow a few whiffs and even free resubmission, but it's something the platform holders do not like at all and generally charge nicely for as punishment, and the risk/cost of them taking a deeper look and failing you is pretty damn big. That's why day 1 patches are a thing; if that fails, oh well, it'll just be a day 5 patch or whatever and people can still keep playing and buying your game in the meantime.

Pretty sure they didn't get a pass on every platform when they declared "gold", or one of them is just plain bad enough to get review bombed.

(I'd have bets on it being some "dumb shit", like someone tried to access an OS menu while in a loading screen and mashing Confirm while the menu loaded)

I'm glad this wasn't called Witcher 4, otherwise I'd be PISSED.

Lol. Oh well, a few more days to wait for a game I won't buy on day 1, lol. I know it's going to be really good, but it's a FPS... I just don't get hyped up about FPS anymore like I used to.

I have given up on being excited about this game. Too many delays. At this point, there's no point in not waiting until it goes on sale.

Well the delay games are starting again. I knew that at the last delay that at least 1 more delay would happen. This takes Cyberpunk closer to christmas also.. haha! CDPR is so predictable. CDPR wants Christmas sales. I wouldn't be surprised if Cyberpunk got delayed even closer to the 25th of December.

Well, that gives you all 3 extra weeks to try and secure an RTX 20 Series (discounted higher end (used on ebay?)), 30 series or AMD equivelent... that is if you care about Ray Tracing during your first play through.
Get your games from GOG DAMMIT!

Or the nastier theory, that the game was in an unshippable state and didn't get certified on consoles. Or that it's in such a bad state that despite the certs on consoles they feel they need to delay it for a day 1 patch that much.
I hope your idea is the one and I'm just being paranoid.

Edit: actually reading what they say, seems that the bad state and need a day 1 patch so badly they need to delay it is the correct one, reading between the lines. Which makes one wonder, are there deficits in the cert processes? Maybe they focus on does it run rather than is it a bug filled game.
