Facebook Launches Cloud Gaming

This post announces Facebook has launched their own cloud-based gaming service. This is starting off as a new home to their social games and free-to-play mobile offerings, rather than as a competitor to Stadia and its ilk, so it won't cost any money. They say they will not over-promise and under-deliver, that they do not see this as a replacement for dedicated gaming hardware, and they are not spinning it off into a separate service. Finally, they explain why this will not be available for iOS devices. Here's where things stand:
It’s critical for us to start with latency-tolerant games so we can deliver a good experience for players across a variety of devices. For the purposes of our beta, that includes genres like sports, card, simulation, and strategy games. This is cloud gaming after all, so even with latency-tolerant games players may notice some glitches. We’ll occasionally show player rating cards and feedback forms to help improve the experience over time.

As our beta progresses and cloud technology scales, we'll increase the variety of game genres. That expansion will start in 2021 with the addition of action and adventure games. Games will launch with in-app purchases and ads enabled, depending on game format and developer choice.

It's not how long it will be before you have to log in to buy gas or groceries tp be concerned about, it's how long before the only way to buy gas or groceries is via Gacha.

While they obviously don’t require it, that’s what shoppers cards / loyalty cards are and you’ve needed those to get the advertised prices for years.

LOL I have a rewards card for a local supermarket with the name Tyler Durden on it.
I even paused and zoomed the movie to get the correct address, 537 Paper Street.

Hah! I always use the phone number 867-5309 when stores ask for it. I think in all the years I've used it only one person caught it was from the song.

I collect PC points. Usually have $100-$200 in free groceries by year's end - always use them in Dec. If they want my food data in exchange for food I'm copacetic with that. At least I get something for that data.

Logical next step for FB, and has the potential to become the most successful iteration of cloud gaming.

Just think of all the old folks isolated from their friends and family because of the pandemic, desperate for a bit of fun because the bingo hall is closed... now they can play scrabble or lawn bowling on the same screen as they browse their feed for hints from Q of a new, underground chapter to join.

I'm happy for the them.

Yeah, I don't use those. But as I mentioned in a different topic, that hasn't kept them from tracking me since I usually use my credit card to pay. Hence, I have received coupons via the mail which are clearly based on my previous purchases...

Will you need a Fakebook account to use it? /sarcasm

They should just create their own multiplayer fps called Red vs Blue. That's next level Fakebook right there
