Amnesia: Rebirth Released

Amnesia: Rebirth is now available for Windows and macOS on GOG.com and Steam, offering a long-awaited follow up to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Frictional Games' critically acclaimed survival/horror game. Here's a Launch Trailer with a look at gameplay and here's its official description:
You can’t let out a breath. The creature is only inches away. Its sole purpose - to feed off your terror. And so you crouch in the dark, trying to stop the fear rising, trying to silence what lies within you.

“I know you. I know what you're capable of.”

In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

“Do not allow yourself anger, do not allow yourself to fear.”

Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

  • First-person narrative horror experience
  • Explore environments and uncover their histories.
  • Overcome puzzles that stand in your way.
  • Carefully manage your limited resources, both physical and mental.
  • Encounter horrific creatures and use your wits and understanding of the world to escape them.

I'm liking it so far... it's very pretty. Setting is A+ so far.
It feels like you can explore a bit more than the previous games, even though it's mostly an illusion and a lot of the traversable area is useless.
I do like that they've hidden a lot of the notes and diary stuff, so you do kind of need to drag things around and open boxes to find them all.

Watched several different streams yesterday and didn't notice anyone actually enjoying it during that time, small sample, but not a lot really happening.

Hit a snag at launch for those who pre-ordered on steam where the executable to launch the game wasn't included. Oops.

Feel very samey though as far as your resource management, exploration and having the most awful source of light in the history of history but right out the gate you're treated with the realization that there's definitely something more than just a romp through a castle. I forgot how much I hate the swinging motion you do on items with a mouse and the rotation of objects but I'm sure I'll just deal with it all over again.

Very front-loaded with expositional flashbacks so far though.

I just finished a Machine for Pigs recently and I thought it was awful, Different devs though.
But then immediately after I played through SOMA and it was amazing.
Looking forward to this.

Frictional is one of the few developers where I'm excited to see what they've made and will gladly purchase.
Going to go boot this up now... all I've done PC gaming wise lately is play Overwatch and bit of that Mafia 1 remake.

Next up is probably Cyberpunk.

Does this one have a safe mode like SOMA or is it like the original Amnesia?

Some of the reviews I've seen mentioned it has no safe mode this time around. It maybe could be added post-launch, but apparently the monsters are kinda important to the story, so it'd be pretty hard to cut them out for a safe mode.
