Pandemic Train

Developer Trigger Labs announces Pandemic Train, a survival game that puts you in charge of a train traveling through a post-apocalyptic wasteland as you work towards finding a cure for a deadly plague. This Contagion (or 2020, if you prefer) meets Snowpiercer project is planned to come to Steam on November 25, 2021. If it sounds familiar (besides the fact that it was first unveiled a little over a month ago), this may be because of Pandemic Express - Zombie Escape, which went free-to-play early this year. But while Pandemic Express is more of a first-person shooter, Pandemic Train looks more like This War of Mine, as you can see in this trailer. Here a quick summary:
In Pandemic Train you are in charge of the crew aboard a train roaming the postapocalyptic wasteland, ravaged by both war and a deadly plague. Your goal is to survive long enough to discover the cure… or die trying.

Game’s features include:

  • Singleplayer campaign
  • Atmospheric visuals and music
  • An interesting story set in an alternative historic setting
  • Chance to create your own train, with various types of wagons you can add to the steam engine
  • A vast array of characters we can recruit onboard the train
  • Resource and crew management
  • Difficult, morally ambiguous choices

LOL...uh, he's graduating this year and has his mind set on becoming an aerospace engineer major with the hope of maybe going to space one day. A far cry from his train hey day. But maybe I'll introduce him to David Bowie and Major Tom, although that's probably not safer either.

I'd argue that aerospace engineer isn't that far from his train days. His interests appear remarkably consistent actually. Now if you'd told me he wanted to be an actor, or a social worker...

And you know that notion just crossed my mind....

You know you're a parent of a son who loves trains when the Thomas the Tank Engine song kicks off in your mind when seeing anything about "trains." lol

I don't know about that. Those are lyrics from Casey Jones by The Grateful Dead. I'd be worried if your son wanted to be a train engineer doing his job high on cocaine.
Amazed

Oh yeah, I know the song. It's one of their best. I just was meaning to say that I can't ever look at a train without recalling the Thomas the Tank Engine children's show song. My son just loved that show when he was little and was really fascinated with trains; more than I ever was when I was that age.

Yeah, but...will you introduce him to the Grateful Dead and cocaine when he's old enough, particularly if he's a train engineer?

I didn't see any shooting, but maybe you can throw anti-vaxxers off the train while it's moving.

Did that qualify as a threat?

There is no way in Hell a 2-8-0 is going to pull that many freight cars. A Big Boy might be able to pull that large of a train provided it has perfect grip and zero inclinations to traverse. Yes, it irritates me. Yes, I am a crotchety old man.

That being said, it looks like it could be right up my alley.

I'm surprised this doesn't violate the Pandemic boardgame trademark.
I think a trademark is harder to defend, especially across media, when it's just a common word, like Diplomacy or Risk. I think it would be very hard for Wizards of the Coast to protect a blanket trademark on "Magic" across all videogames.
