DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer Flies Out

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is now available, adding an updated version of the legendary ground attack aircraft to Digital Combat Simulator World, Eagle Dynamics' aerial combat playground. This is available on the DCS World Store and you can also pick this up on Steam, where there's also an Upgrade Version to allow owners of the original A-10C Warthog to buy it with a significant discount. Here's a Launch Trailer and here's the description of what to expect, warts and all:
DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is the follow-on to the renowned DCS: A-10C Warthog, and it brings many improvements and new additions like the latest weapons, a helmet-mounted sight, and new graphics.

The A-10C is the premiere Close Air Support (CAS) aircraft of the United States, and it saw extensive use in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tank Killer brings you the most realistic PC simulation of the A-10C that includes the accurately simulated flight dynamics, avionics, sensors, and weapon systems. You also have the option to play Tank Killer in "Game" mode for a casual game experience. Fly missions against and with a wide array of air, land, and sea forces. Create your own missions and campaigns with the included Mission and Campaign Editor and fly with and against friends online using the included online game browser.

The A-10C is most noted for its powerful 30mm rotary cannon, durability and pilot protection, long endurance times, and a massive arsenal of weapons that includes guided and unguided bombs, rockets, guided-missiles, guided-rockets, and more. Be the bane of every hostile tank commander.

Get your Brrrrrrrrt on!

Key features:

  • A-10C II adds new weapons that include the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS), AGM-65L laser-Maverick, and GBU-54 laser-guided JDAM.

This version was done at the request of the USAF, hence the new systems, weapons, and upgraded flight model (which was applied retroactively to the A-10A and A-10C modules). It's a $10 upgrade for existing owners and absolutely worth the cost. For new buyers, at $80 it depends on how much you need the BRRRT.

Development of the DCS A-10C was funded by the National Guard, so yeah, it's pretty realistic! They were contractually bound to not include laser Mavericks in the consumer version and there was some controversy when people figured out a way to enable them anyway, and then they had to patch them out. But now, years later, either that expired or they got the green light, because laser Mavericks are a main selling point of this new release.

The coolest thing in here by far though is the Scorpion HMCS. What a game-changer for situational awareness and control over targeting systems. Highlighting of nav points and mark points is almost like having labels on but it's realistic. And the integration with the targeting pod means you can just look at something on the ground outside, hit a button on the HOTAS, and bam ... your TGP is pointing right at it. Wow!

It's used to train the national guard IIRC so yeah, it's about as detailed as they get :-)
