GeForce RTX 3070 Launch Delayed

NVIDIA offers a GeForce RTX 3070 Availability Update, announcing a delay to the launch of their GeForce RTX 3070 cards. They say this is to make more units available on launch day, which is now October 29th. It seems like the same number of cards will be available by that day whether or not they first launch them on October 17th as previously planned, but they feel this makes things better:
Production of GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards are ramping quickly. We’ve heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th.

We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.

The GeForce RTX 3070 delivers incredible performance and features, including NVIDIA Reflex and Broadcast, for $499. Across a variety of ray-traced and rasterized DirectX and Vulkan titles, the GeForce RTX 3070 delivers similar or faster performance than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (which sold for twice the price) and is on average 60% faster than the original GeForce RTX 2070.

Xero, I'm in a similar situation as you and long story short think I'm gonna get one of these new cards before doing a new build.
I figure I can't go too far wrong because if it doesn't change my performance significantly, I'll know I was for sure CPU bottlenecked and then go for one of the Rocket Lake CPUs when they launch in the next couple months. Of course the better and cheaper scenario is that it performs well in your system, and you can keep going for a year or so and buy yourself some time to plan your next build. Many other factors in play of course but that's my basic advice.

Yeah, I effing hope that AMD doesn't drop the effing ball like effing Nvidia has with its launch. I'd really like to get my effing new rig in effing Nov., early Dec. at the latest.

Getting a pre-built will probably be the easiest way to secure the hardware.

I'm torn as to whether upgrade my 1070 to this card on my current build or need to do an entirely new build. My current build is 5 years old and has been a beast for 1080p games. I started it with a 970 which outdated and threw the 1070 in around the end of year 3. It gave the build a second wind and it has been awesome. I can play everything maxed out with no issues. Now the true next gen games are dropping with ray tracing as a standard. I'm sure you can play them without it but you are immediately getting a degrade in graphics which I hate.

You think an i7 5 years old paired with a 3070 will be Okay or it's time for mobo+CPU upgrade? I'm not sure which generation of i7 it was when I got it but yeah, 5 years old. Also, can the mobo have some type of limitation from being 5 years old that would hinder the performance of the 3070 if it is not the newer mobos? Asking as a guy who hasn't been following the PC hardware since I did my last build.
You have a CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads that maxes out at 4.2 ghz.
Look at the games you play and their requirements. For example, Cyberpunk basically recommends your same cpu but note; those recommendations are for 1080p.

My guess is you'll be able to eek out a couple more years on that mb and cpu combo with a new 3070.

I do not expect their launch day supplies to be much better with the 3070. The bots will still grab a large number of them. As to AMD, who knows. Unless you are playing in 4k none of these cards are really necessary if you ask me. I think the 3060 release will be more applicable to most gamers. Hopefully the AMD release will make Nvidia be more price competitive.

For one the Amd "Up their Sleeve hasn't been a REAL Threat or Real Challenge to Nvidia ! I got both the last generations of AMD Video cards and it was Just a Over heating Mees Right out off the Box !!! The Amd Radeon $400+ 5800 xt video card Cooked in Large Tower with 6 120mm fans on Full blast it wasnt worth it and the final end was getting a Nvidia RtX 2060 Super video card and to this day is what i use for gaming with a Ryzen 5 3600 cpu and 16 gigs of DDR 4 3200 ram I dont think it can or is a Scam Everything is being taken from all gamers like New video cards to the Xbox preorders or the Playstation 5s where no one can get them ???? What is the worst that can happend 6-9 months from now if you try to get a Rtx 3000 series or the new Xbox console or the playstation 5 ??? Do you Really need Bragging Rights on the internet ???? OR to Friends who claim all year long The Xbox Series will Rule with a 85 inch tv and 240hz ? Refresh rate to play FortNite ??? I can wait and hang on to my Rtx 2060 Super for a year or 2 I dont have a system that can handle 4k gaming at 150 fps ?????

Why? Have they recently halted production or shipping for two weeks somewhere?

If X is the number of GPUs they would have available for the 17th, and Y is the number they'll produce between then and the 29th, is putting them all into one big pile Z really better than selling them separately?

Launch day availability will definitely be considerably better for the RTX 3070 and maybe there will even be stock in stores for at least a short little while. According to retailers, they are constantly getting small quantities of RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 but they have lots and lots of orders to fulfill which they are working through in order. That is the reason why it never looks like there is any stock in online stores. The cards are already sold and never show up as available. Demand is huge. Delaying the RTX 3070 for two weeks could mean that nVidia and retailers will at least be able to serve all launch day, maybe even launch week orders, before running out of stock. At $499 and if the performance really (about) matches a RTX 2080Ti there is going to be a lot of demand as well.

This.

Not that they can change anything but the price, which AMD will announce on the 28th.

Holy Crap.... if you search ebay for the RTX 3080 and sort by highest price first... the first legit card is 10K! (Ignore the 50k-100K entry)
Then it runs down from their to an average of 2K.

Lowest buy it now on "alleged confirmed order - Deleivery in November" $1400
Lowest buy it now ready to ship - $1820

No one should pay these crazy inflated prices, series x will have a similar perfomance for 499$, get that instead ! Oh wait...

Why don't they just limit purchase to one item per customer, for one CC billing address AND one shipping address.

In other words... if either the billing or the shipping address comes up a second time, deny the purchase.

That would greatly reduce scalping.
All my CC's have same billing address... few people would have more than one billing address (and I can't imagine more than two).... so, a completely different billing address combined with a completely different shipping address (Say shipping to a relative to get around restriction of 1 purchase) for one person would be fairly rare.

More likely X had the wrong caps and were all trashed. Z will be X minus Y, Giving them some time to get the newly manufactured cards with the proper capacitor configuration into the supply chain.
