Rumored Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered Reportedly Delayed

VentureBeat reports that the release of a remastered Mass Effect trilogy they say is called the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is being pushed back to early next year. This can't be considered a delay, as the product hasn't even been officially announced, so this whole story has to be considered a rumor. But they say they've heard from "people familiar with the development." They say the holdup is getting the remade version of the original first Mass Effect up to the quality of what they've accomplished with the other two games:
The primary factor holding up development, beyond the pandemic, is the original Mass Effect game. It currently does not live up to the quality of the rest of the package. It would make a poor first impression for new players, and it might disappoint fans who then won’t go on to play and experience the impressive upgrades for Mass Effect 2 and ME 3.

This is a problem with both the visuals and gameplay. The people working on the game understand the issues, and they want to do right by the franchise’s fans.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect are the kinds of franchises that Bioware should have made at least 4 if not 5 AAA games each by now. The fact that both series seem to be on a downward trajectory (in my opinion of course) makes me pretty skeptical about any future games in either series. I don't know who to blame but I have no problem defaulting to EA.

It is a legitimate criticism that the ending was mediocre and your choices didn't make a huge difference (though they still affect some things). However, dismissing the entire game (or series) on its concluding chapter is silly to me. It is more about the journey than the final destination (which also wasn't that terrible, especially with the later update).

Didn't work out to well for Game of Thrones, having a lackluster finish, wiped out everything.

Same for me, never played 3.

the first half was actually great, the second half - you find out none of your choices matter, you find out some magic kid orchestrated it all, and then you find out the different endings only resuilt in different colored explosions. Yeah, they did some weak add on to do a "after the end" conclusion.

But I didn't dismiss the whole series. I finished 1 and 2 but didn't touch 3.

I only played 1 for the first time about a year ago, and I did not think it looked that dated so I don't get what they are going on about, it is a 13 year old game after all. The current industry standard for a remaster seems to be just some slightly better textures, and perhaps an extra mission or two.

Or to take and "remaster" a visually inferior console port that lacked better texture and even does not contain all the missions of the original pc game. Yes, I'm looking at you, Crysis!

Would be amazing if you could play the campaign in coop. You have 2 AI squad memebrs at all times. So why not let your friends control them at least, or better still use their own characteras.

M35 Mako bouncy driving, constant elevator loading screen filler, and endless loot management were just part of the game. Let new players suffer like the original players did. They certainly beat the hell out of the planetary sonogram game and universal ammo that were introduced later on down the road. :-P

For goodness sake, EA, just tell people BioWare is working on this. Don't be foolish.

My suspicion is that Bioware is on it's final strikes with EA and will soon fade away like so many others before them.

Nope, the original ending without the extended cut was really, really terrible, because without the 'explanations' in the extended cut, it looked as if your companions, while you were charging at the gate and nearly being blasted to death, decided to abandon you, teleported back up to Normandy, where they and Joker deserted the battle to save their own skins.

That was why they had to come up with the Extended Cut ending, aside from the '3 coloured explosions that killed every civilisation in the galaxy because whatever you choose, all the Mass Relays will be destroyed releasing supernova level explosion making your choices irrelevant' ending in the original. They had to write that out as well.

Yes, I'm still bitter.

I'm hoping they provide the games in their original state as well. I can understand why they want to impress new players with a cohesive vision, but I guess for me graphics or gameplay quirks don't matter that much to me.

A delay so they can rewrite #3 so that the choices you made in #1 and #2 are actually going to matter?
