Out of the Blue

The plummeting temperatures around here I mentioned yesterday are proving to be problematic. Part of our obligation to our homeowner's association is to have our pellet stove inspected by a professional every year. We have an appointment, but it's still a couple of weeks off, so if it keeps getting colder, things could get uncomfortable here. It occurs to me that our inspection last year may still be valid... I'll have to check through the paperwork to see if there is a loophole. I hope this is the case, as I'm sure the stove is as safe as when we last used it and I am not a big fan of the cold.

Could you imagine sitting next to a person on the subway and they just get up drop their drawers and poop on the seat?

Fun stuff I've seen on NYC subways:

* a strung out Russian prostitute arguing with her pimp (not 100% certain on this since I don't speak Russian but it's sure what it looked like)
* a married couple fighting to the point that one threatens divorce, the other accepts, and they both storm off to other cars
* the actor Titus Welliver
* Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Halloween, but it was a damn good costume)

So Mafia DE is out very soon.
I'm cautiously excited but also wary that they don't screw it all up with lousy AI.
From what I've heard you should be able to explore the entire map Lost Heaven and countryside after the intro mission.

Ruin your morning? Holy shit, talk about apocalyptic events... if these addicts in this country(and most of the world) don't get their bean juice, there will be complete mayhem! They'll all have to turn to smoking or something. Or meth.

It's above seasonal here this week which is nice, but next week - and for the next several apparently we'll be below seasonal so I'm guessing an early winter. Enh, bring it on if it keeps people indoors. Maybe we can nip this resurgence in the bud before it really gets going.

Halloween: CDC says no trick-or-treating amid COVID-19.

Kind of surprised at this. Traditional trick-or-treating is outdoors, kids are socially distanced for the most part, and everyone is wearing a mask. I can see that you wouldn't want to go to indoor Halloween parties or parking garage "trunk-or-treating" (first time I've even heard of that).

Too many little kids walking around, touching their faces and eating stuff, parents walking around drunk, talking to each other, for what, candy? Too much of a risk for too little reward. Stay home, avoid Covid, avoid diabetes. The CDC is right (in my opinion) to recommend avoiding this sort of social event.

Were I live in the US, there has been a steady decline of trick-or-treating over the years anyway. I just think the culture has changed a bit in general. There was a time when you could just stop by someone's house and be always welcomed. And I'd love it when friends or family dropped by my house. It's so much different these days. You need a week to two week notice, a written invitation, and confirmation call just to see people. Times have changed

Yeah, my son is still young enough to go, but he stopped a couple of years ago. He'd end up throwing out most of his candy anyway.

COVID-19: KN95 face masks from China don't meet standards, ECRI finds.

Yeah, I've seen these for sale and have been reticent to purchase them for this very reason.
