NVIDIA on Restocking Sold Out GeForce 3080s

A post from NVIDIA discusses the GeForce 3080 launch fiasco. They explain that the impact of bots and scripts on the quick sell-out of their new graphics cards is being over-stated, as many of these were manually cancelled. But they do say that they and their partners underestimated the unprecedented demand. Here's part of the explanation that discusses plans to restock:
What happened? I was really excited for the GeForce RTX 3080, but the launch has made it near impossible to find one and this is really disappointing.
The demand for the GeForce RTX 3080 was truly unprecedented. We and our partners underestimated it.

Over 50 major global retailers had inventory on the day of launch. Our retail partners reported record traffic to their sites, in many cases exceeding Black Friday. This caused crashes, delays and other issues for their customers. We knew the GeForce RTX 3080 would be popular, but none of us expected that much traffic on the first day.

What’s the overall GeForce RTX 3080 stock situation?
The GeForce RTX 3080 is in full production. We began shipping GPUs to our partners in August, and have been increasing the supply weekly. Partners are also ramping up capacity to meet the unprecedented demand. We understand that many gamers are unable to buy a GeForce RTX 3080 right now and we are doing everything we can to catch up quickly. Keep checking in with your favorite retailer to be notified of availability. You may use the GeForce RTX 3080 product finder to find available cards at local retailers.

It's funny (in a "I wanna cry" sort of way), minutes after I posted that, Amazon put an ASUS card up. Then about 45-60 minutes or so later, posted an EVGA card. Of course, I missed both. I got all the way to the last checkout step for the EVGA though, before it auto-removed from my cart saying there was no stock.

Not just is it a funny thing in a "I wanna rage" sort of way for me, but on Amazon.de they just unlisted all 3080s and canceled the Zotac pre-order even though it was.. a fucking... pre-order.

I am done with this. Tell me a store where I can pre-order with a queue and send me there

Also a fucking week later and it's still a paper launch

One reminder for anyone who contracts Covid or tests positive for Covid anti-bodies....you now have a pre-existing condition in terms of your American health insurance. Make your next health insurance choices in the coming year appropriately. This will probably change to some extent after the vaccine becomes available. (hopefully)

Even funnier still, is that Amazon US hasn't posted any for sale yet (the Zotac pre-order a couple days ago was a mistake and most have been canceled). And I don't mean shipped, I mean they haven't even been available on the site to purchase yet.

While I HOPE Big Navi is a contender, I will be doing what I can to get a 3080. AMD’s driver team has been a mess for years.

Depends.
Last few generations, AMD hasn't been able to really compete in the upper end, so even when they did released cards... nvidia's prices didn't drop.
nVidia's pricing has lasted well over a year after launch.

We'll see what Big Navi brings to the table, though.

I know this is a meme at this point, but if they had a pre-order system with a queue and an FIXED ETA this would not have happened.... yeah it still causes delays but at least nobody gets all riled up over it. The fact Amazon for example sold a (in shippment, aka not in store) 100 slot of cards to 20000 people tells you that the problems lie everywhere though, not just at Nvidia.

Anyway, as long as Amazon doesn't flat out cancel my order it is a queue and I get the card eventually... but if Amazon cancels the order I am gonna be pissed because how you ever gonna buy something if they always oversell quantities and then cancel you? This starts to become supremely annoying.

And you know what is even funnier? Amazon has so far sold exactly ZERO 3080s in Europe. (Aka, actually shipped to someone) the launch was a true paper launch.

Having a real face-to-face with your own mortality has a funny way of making you stop planning for the future as much, and instead living in the moment. I got me one of them Samsung G7's too. Zero fucks given.

I do this also knowing full well that a 3080 will hold its value (for resale) in the coming months, and I'd like nothing more than to be amazed by AMD and sell my 3080 for Big Navi. I wouldn't aim to make a profit from it, but taking a small loss is fine with me if Big Red actually brings out the big guns.

According to Tom at Moore's Law is Dead, Samsung's supply issues aren't that bad, that nVidia is holding back supply until October where the $50 rebate to AIBs for 3rd party cards expires.

According to him stock will improve in Oct, and the price will go up.

I got a preorder in on Amazon for an MSI Gaming Trio X, will be a nice upgrade for my 1080ti. I'm sad that AMD hasn't announced anything yet, I'd love to cancel my preorder and get Big Navi, but I've been waiting 3+ years.

I haven't heard of a single non-bot non-reseller who got any variety of the 3080 at all.
I camped out and most sites never seemed to start selling, and the one's that did never showed anything for sale. Just a refresh from Coming Soon to Sold Out in the time it took to perform the refresh.
