Origin Desktop App Being Renamed

In an interview on GamesIndustry.biz, Electronic Arts' Mike Blank fills in some more blanks about EA's plans to continue rebranding and repositioning their services. He tells them the Origin desktop app will be given a visual refresh and will be renamed the EA desktop app. Just last month they announced EA Play as the new name for the services formerly known as EA Access and Origin Access. Mike explains this is all part of an effort "to create a more frictionless, fast, socially-oriented experience for our players." Here's more:
"All of that is signaled by creating a common and consistent brand that is centered around EA and what EA stands for," Blank says. "And what signals it is this inflection about how EA stands for bringing your players together around the games they want to play on the platforms they want to play on. So yeah, it's not just a name change. It really signals an ethos that is critically important to us and that we know that's important to our players."

One of the most telling signs that an administration of any type of organization is out of touch and has no clue about their customers or product, is when the execs spend more time with fawning marketing types, who march into their office every day with "which color on this part of the new logo do you like best" type questions that any chimp can answer, but totally soothes the harried executive without out a clue's unease and makes them feel in control again.

Yes, social, remember that Madden, FIFA, and Sims are their tentpoles... Snorts and farts from grumpy old(er) men who don't play those things hardly factor in to their 'ethos.'

Socially oriented, lol.

Well, a name change or added functionality I wil never use shouldn't be a problem for me personally, at least. I have about 40 or so Origin games, but I've only bought around 10-12 of those, and only one of those for full price I think? The rest were freebies. The vast majority of my games are on Gog and Steam now.

Looking at my Origin friends list, it seems like a lot of people have basically abandoned the platform, judging from my anecdotal evidence.
I'd totally play BF4 using STEAM and ditch forever Origin. But every time I think about ditching a launcher, two more appear (Epic and Battle.net in my case).

Some of the biggest problems with Origin are around getting you in a game with your friends... so if that falls under the umbrella of improvements to "socially-oriented experience" then bring it on. It shouldn't be so damn hard to get in a game together with a few friends.

"EA stands for bringing your players together around the games they want to play"

For us, long time gamers, EA stands for something else, and I don't mean Electronic Arts. Also, I don't want to brought together. I want fun single-player experiences.
