Out of the Blue

Billionaire Steve Cohen agrees to buy the New York Mets. This is fantastic news for a Mets fan like myself. I won't say this is because he's such a terrific person. I don't know that much about him, but he has faced a few different charges related to his hedge fund activities over the years, so he's probably not a Boy Scout. But he is rich as Croesus so this will hopefully put an end to the relatively miserly way the team has operated since Fred Wilpon lost a fortune in the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme. The Mets won their second World Series in 1986, which ended what was considered a 17 year "drought" from their first championship. That makes their current drought twice as long as the previous one. Here's hoping the sale is the start of a brighter chapter for the franchise.

Revival Round-up

Programming language history was interesting although I would like to know who in the world coded anything in ADA? I find that statistic a bit suspicious as I never ever saw a want ad asking for the language or even knew anyone who used it. I don't even know any universities that taught ADA. My number one worst language is Java.

As to the Mets, I can still hear my grandfather cheering for them. It is a shame that the current ownership has depleted the farm system so bad. Hopefully, the new owner will address that.

The Mets probably won't ever be worth less then they are right now so as a potential buyer for a sports team they would be a hot commodity. New York anything is simply too good of a location for advertising, attracting talent, etc. They have fantastic rivalries within their division and league as well as with the Yankees. (74–54 Yankees if you are curious) They have a respected farm system with no less than 9 affiliated teams of various levels. Right now was, in my view, a perfect time to buy them. The owner should have sold them before this, his loss.

Best of luck with the Mets!

Hopefully, you won't run into the Washington Football Team situation (new owner, ton's of money, plays at being GM all the time)

I don't know, maybe because of the massive amount of smoke they are breathing in, it's too damned hot for them, the magnetic poles have shifted enough that they can no longer navigate correcty, increased temperatures have brought some fatal disease to the flocks, etc. etc. etc. Even the article posits that the birds didn't have enough time to store enough fat before getting pushed out by the wild fires. Misleading headline.

Probably because the planet is fucked?

*EDIT* Typo.
