Microsoft Eyeing Bungie Re-Acquisition?

The latest episode of GamesBeat Decides includes indications that Microsoft is in talks to re-acquire Bungie, the studio they owned until 2007. More recently Bungie was an Activision possession, but they regained their independence from them last year. Eurogamer.net reports on this saying they can independently corroborate the story, saying the companies are dickering over a price tag:
Speaking on the GamesBeat podcast, Venturebeat's Jeff Grubb said he had heard Microsoft and Bungie had been in discussions - although the two companies had not been able to agree on a sale price.

I've independently heard these talks have taken place, driven on Bungie's side by a desire to raise new funds for the studio, its projects and staff.

Why is this even relevant? When was the last time Bungie actually made a good game?

Re-acquiring Bungie is their Destiny.

Lol, and the rumor monger's excuse: "acquisition talks are always happening all the time for all kinds of stuff."

All these self-proclaimed insiders and "leakers" ought to be wiped from social media the same way other misinformation is.

Or, it could all be fake news.

Wow, it was a rumor after all. I have to say that I was rather surprised to see this after Bungie became indie again. On the other hand, everything has a price

Would it even matter ? Plus who would want the people they have left.? It's not like they would be 'getting the band back together' and suddenly pull off some great achievement in gaming history again...

The top people would all get paid, then leave and go start something else -somewhere else. All the real workers would get moved around or quit after they get new team management ,etc.... rinse, repeat ...

Considering you could see how fast things went into the toilet after they left Activision... this isn't as bad as it would've sounded a few years ago. Granted, the decisions they're making with D2 atm are beyond idiotic (taking away weapons for... reasons alone was/is a terrible decision), and the amount of frustration people have expressed at how hard they push in game transactions as well as how often there are issues with said in game purchase... yeah.

Bungie has twice rebelled against parent companies and exclusive contracts already, they must be hurting with Destiny 2 to even consider this.

That's not really how it was in practice. Bungie has been a hot mess since they got their independence from MS. Bungie's management really has no idea what they're doing, and while they might not have liked someone else calling the shots, at least MS was able to keep them focused and on track. While I'm no fan of Microsoft, this honestly sounds like good news to me, and I think it can only improve Bungie.

This.

It's always a hard balancing act of "we'll fund you" vs "we want creative freedom to do whatever regardless of cost". MS was probably too dominating before but I think they've learned their lesson. The seem much more hands off with their recent acquisitions (e.g. linkedin, double fine, inxile). And, they do have deep pockets.

I wonder if VentureBeat only hired Jeff Grubb because the name is well known, like a form of clickbait. I made the mistake of clicking on an article by this person only to find out he wasn't THE Jeff Grubb.

I kind of get the sense that MS has little faith left in 343 for Halo and want the creators and masters of the game to come back and fix it.
