Xbox Series X & S November 10th - Xbox Game Passes to Include EA Play

Xbox Wire announces Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will launch on November 10th. The big X version has an estimated retail price of $499 while the smaller S version is estimated to be $299. But they are also announcing an Xbox All Access plan for 12 countries that will give players the chance to own an Xbox X and get 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $24.99 a month with no upfront costs. This brings the cost of the whole deal to about $600. They also reveal that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC members will get an EA Play membership at no additional cost starting this holiday season. This separate post has additional details on that deal:
Today, we’re excited to announce the next step in this journey. We are teaming up with Electronic Arts to provide Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC members with an EA Play membership at no additional cost starting this holiday. This means Ultimate members can enjoy EA Play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows 10 PCs, and Xbox Game Pass for PC members get EA Play on Windows 10.

Formerly known as EA Access and Origin Access, EA Play will bring the best of EA to Game Pass, including:

  • More than 60 of EA’s biggest and best console and PC games like FIFA 20, Titanfall 2 and Need for Speed Heat, as well as titles from some of EA’s most popular franchises like Battlefield, Mass Effect, Skate, and The Sims.
  • Exclusive in-game challenges and rewards, special member-only content, discounts on EA digital purchases for DLC, games, and more.
  • Access to trials of games for up to 10 hours from best-loved franchises and top titles like Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21.
  • Not only will EA Play titles be available on console and PC, this holiday, some of the best EA Play games will also be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play on Android devices via the cloud at no additional charge.

I don't trust Microsoft. I don't see how they can maintain that $5 per month PC Xbox Game Pass deal and continue to add stuff like EA Play and the new stream of games. I'm waiting until they jack up the price or bait and switch. Just like MoviePass was good until it died, I guess I will enjoy the PC Xbox Game Pass while it lasts.

What is it you don't trust? It has been clear from the start that the current price of game pass for pc is a beta-price.

The service will now exit beta and a new price has been set, which imo is exactly as expected and completely reasonable.

Whether it is worth it or not to is entirely up to you.

10GB on the Series S

Guess what? NEW LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR!

Yeah you can gimp the GPU that's fine, but RAM is RAM, it limits the scope of what can be happening in your game, even with all the SSD super fast shit going on.

He's got a point^^

FUCK PHIL SPENCER

10GB on the Series S

goddamnit

we're all doomed.

Guess what? NEW LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR!

Even though 80% of next gen consoles will have 16GB, developers in the pre-planning stages will have to gimp their cross-platform games to a 10GB footprint

ARAGH@#$@$^@$^@$^@#$%@ #($&@#$)(!*#@%^#!)(*$^&@$#)%^(*&*@$%^)

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I hope devs honestly just don't support the S, say fuck you to Microsoft with this stupid move.

Yeah you can gimp the GPU that's fine, but RAM is RAM, it limits the scope of what can be happening in your game, even with all the SSD super fast shit going on.

It will go up, just when it is out of beta. At their current pace and if they care about quality launchers, this may still take quite a while.

I see it comes out of beta next week. Price increase coming, don't think that has been stated yet.

This makes doing a nice new Ryzen 4700X and RTX 3070 build look mighty tempting for this fall/winter to blow away these next-gen consoles.

We finally have a date on the 4x00 series announcement 10/8.

Color me extremely surprised...

Still, almost 700$ after taxes is hardly an "OK price".

I wouldn't even put that much toward a GPU, much less a conslow.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. It's $599 in Canada by the way.

Doubtful, the current exchange rate puts 499 USD @ 656.91 CAD. Usually they take that and add some to it until they hit a price like say 659.99, add 14.95% taxes = ~759$

They NEVER cut back on the price after exchange rate before. I doubt they'll start now. Unless you got incontrovertible evidence to the contrary?

No one in Canada buys 1080p TVs anymore, cheapest 4K TVs have reached a price where cheaping out for 1080p is practically useless at the same sizes a few years back. The XSS is a joke.

Dude, I was giving you the announced price - it's $599 in Canada. And yeah that's great about 1080p TVs, the Series S does 4k upscaling and many people just buy the cheapest thing. I don't think you understand the console market, it's an entry level console. To me I don't like its price because of the lack of a disc drive but its an otherwise totally inoffensive entry level offering for people who don't have Series X money to plunk down. I am not getting either one but it's a smart play for the casual Gamepass crowd.

I'd hardly call 500$ an "OK price" during a historic record economic depression. Much less in countries like Canada or Australia where 500 USD quickly becomes 750-800$ after exchange rate and taxes.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. It's $599 in Canada by the way. Australia gets hosed as usual but what else is new?

And the Series S is simply not worth it at its price, outclassed by current GPUs at the same price point, no doubt obliterated by the upcoming RDNA2/3000 series at the same price point.

Many people only play games on a television and don't care how their set top box compares to a GPU. I don't personally think its worthwhile but many people game at the low end of the market and 1080p/60fps is not the end of the world.

Me stream them? I really don't have a reason to go back to a Microsoft Console. I haven't touched a Halo since Reach. Forza 4, Horizons and Gears 4? I played on the Microsoft Game Pass on the PC. Crackdown 3's only interesting feature to me (total destruction) never happened.

I know it's not for everyone, but isn't Flight Sim 2020 going to be available at launch?

They haven't confirmed a release date for it yet so I highly doubt it and I have it on the PC anyway. Assassin's Creed Valhalla seems to be their big "launch partner" title and it looks like an absolute snoozefest.

EA Play isn't very good for no other reason they virtually never add anything to their vault. It's been almost a year now and it's virtually the same list of games I started with. Meanwhile XGP is adding multiple new games weekly.

I agree that EA Play is not a great value proposition (unless you really like that catalogue), but game pass for pc including EA Play certainly is.

EA's is good when there are some new games that come out and bundle a couple together for a month and not stay in it 12 months of the year.
