Well, all awards are just basically some people who got together and decided to give people some (usually) meaningless prize based on the opinions of a selected few.
There are quite a few remasters these days though, I wouldn't say the category is entirely unwarranted...

What do people think about the best "ongoing game"? My favorite on-going games are FFXIV and Guild Wars 2, haven't touched too much of Borderlands 3, though it was pretty good.

The category was not 'best hardcore racing sim;' the other nominees were a post-apocalyptic city builder and the console version of Planet Coaster.
