The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon Trailer and Details

Xbox Wire offers a Gameplay Walkthrough Trailer for Peril on Gorgon, the narrative expansion for The Outer Worlds that's coming to Obsidian's sci-fi RPG next week. The clip includes almost 12 minutes of gameplay footage narrated by Game Director Carrie Patel discussing the new content. Here word:
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon takes place on the Gorgon asteroid, which was the site of one of the most ambitious scientific undertakings in Halcyon: the development and synthesis of Adrena-Time, a drug intended to improve the productivity of workers across the Halcyon colony. After an expensive development cycle and several failed tests, the Spacer’s Choice corporation shuttered the project, and the abandoned facilities became home to marauders and a motley band of SubLight contractors.

Five years after the end of the Adrena-Time project, wealthy recluse Minnie Ambrose reaches out to you in hopes of learning more about Dr. Olivia Ambrose, her mother, and the former head of the project. Your journey will take them through Gorgon’s treacherous canyons and into its abandoned corporate facilities as you track down Dr. Ambrose’s scattered, embittered colleagues and uncover a mystery that has shaped life in Halcyon. Check out the video above for a look at some of the new story and content from early in the Peril on Gorgon expansion.

In addition to the new storyline and environment, there’s also plenty of new gear to find in Peril on Gorgon, including three new science weapons. One of our favorites is the P.E.T., which stands for Pest Extermination Tool, and it draws enemies close for melee attacks. There’s also new armor sets and variations, new creature variants, and even more perks and flaws.

If you’ve completed the critical path of The Outer Worlds through Monarch, you’re ready to jump into Peril on Gorgon. If you’ve already beaten the game, you can either start a new playthrough (and maybe try out a new character build!) or use your final save game and go back to experience the DLC. We’ve increased the level cap to 33 in case you want to keep things going with your current character.

It was a decent enough game for a new series.... Nothing magnificent nor mind-blowing that will leave you absolutely talking about for your lifetime or anything, but worth playing.

Cool, by the time they get around to actually releasing this game on GoG, it should have a couple DLCs and be more fleshed out, content wise. I look forward to buying this on GoG, eventually.

When we treat this game as a "AA" title, which it is, it should change the criticism it often gets a bit. I think the game feels like too much has been cut during production to make it in time for release and the part near the endgame feels very incomplete. While I do not feel like replaying it anytime soon, I will play the DLC (if it's available on gamepass ;)). I hope the sequel becomes a true "AAA" title.

I absolutely love The Outer Worlds. It is in my opinion the true sequel to Fallout: New Vegas and better than the albeit much, MUCH bigger Fallout 3 & 4 (which are good, though, just not as great as F:NV and TOW).
I am not sure if the DLC will be as entertaining as the main game but will definitely watch some playtests and will decide then whether I need it or not. The story of the main game was pretty much done, so I am not sure where this will be going storywise. Maybe they are building up TOW 2 with the DLC?
I'm free of all prejudices. I hate everyone equally.

It's harder to create something from scratch than to already have the engine, systems, lore, etc. ready for you to just create content with. Obsidian has had more success in the AA space when they are in the latter role (KOTOR 2, NWN 2, FO:NV). Also, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they ended up rushing this one in response to the MS buy-out, so they could get to work on new projects for them.

Like many I really dug the beginning and middle parts of the game, however it soon became apparent that the game was nowhere near the promised "scope" of a typical Obsidian RPG. Most of the quests in the game were basically missions, and the the different planets or hubs were just that, hubs and nothing more. The levels felt very cramped, reminiscent of early Bioware games, but without the tight narrative to keep you engaged (like for example KOTOR).

I stopped playing about halfway through. And I don't feel an urge to go back. Feels like this game was soooo close to being at least on part with Fallout New Vegas, if not better. But they missed something along the way.
