Factorio Officially Launches

Factorio has rolled out of the factory and is now officially out of Early Access on GOG.com and Steam. This is a simulation for Windows, macOS, and Linux where you build and maintain your own factories. This carries no release discount, as they reiterate their hard line on such things: "Discount Disclaimer: We don't have any plans to take part in a sale or to reduce the price for the foreseeable future." The Launch Trailer discusses the game's lengthy production cycle and shows off gameplay. This post on Steam discusses the release and what's changed in the full version. Here's the official description:
Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.

Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of Scenarios. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.

That is a better trailer. And I totally agree, I hope those guys are financially secure for a LONG time because of Factorio. Although I doubt they are millionaires. Even with over 2m copies sold at $25 (used to sell for $20, now it sells for $30) it is "only" $50 million gross. Hard to know what they cleared after Steam fees, taxes, salaries, and other development costs.

So happy for these guys. I know it was rough going for some of the team towards the end there, that last 10% is the hardest to get right, even if your game has been solid for 4 years already. It was a long relentless dev cycle but the time in the oven is worth it, the game is a fucking miracle and legendary top ten game of all time easily. I suspect nobody would have thought something like Satisfactory was even possible without it. Their release/beta discipline made for a healthy mod scene despite constant bug fixes and optimisations. Their weekly dev diary is the only one I never skip. I hope all these guys are millionaires and can chill out with their families for a good chunk and enjoy success. I just wish Kerbal as this solid performance wise.

Here is a better trailer that never gets old even though it is. It's one of their early ones but with the release assets!

It works well as far as I know, although I have never utilized it...

Way better than it has any right to work. Slow machines/internet can cause problems but they stress tested it with hundreds of players at once. A decent server can be set up to handle dozens quite easily. I've played 2-3 player with direct connection with just a bit of lag due to one player having bad internet but nothing that gets in the way.

Haha, pretty much. I remember the first day I played it. Started around 8:00 pm, looked up and it was 3:00 am....

Does anyone have any solid beginner guides videos they could share?
Seeing as the game has been very playable over four years now many beginner guides are old and slightly outdated. Here is a link to one of my favorite Factorio Let's Players starting a new series in 1.0. Despite the fact he has done these videos many times, he still explains most of what he is doing and why. I'd say watching it (30 minutes) will 1) give you some idea of what the game involves 2) give you some of the basic information you need to get started in the game. I've watched videos of people trying to figure it out "cold", without reading wikis or watching videos. It can be done, but I wouldn't suggest it.

Vlad ninja'd me, my link is for Nilaus too... I like KoS too, but I don't see a new series for beginners in 1.0, yet. She probably will.

As an old starcraft player this looks super interesting. How's the combat level of the game? Does anyone have any solid beginner guides videos they could share?

KatherineOfSky on youtube has lots of good tutorials, and it looks like she's got a current series of beginner tutorials going for new players jumping in as 1.0 is released.

Nilhaus has tons of tutorials, at all levels.

However, be aware that the combat is not the focus of the game and is pretty basic. There isn't much depth to it. It's fun at first, but many experienced players will just disable the biters (the bug looking things) so they can concentrate on expanding their factories without interruptions. There are different types of turrets you can use to automate defenses, along with several ammo types and weapons, so it's not barebones, but definitely something to be aware of.

The combat is a side activity. It is a building and logistics game.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I only ever even setup nuclear power once, just so I could say I did it. Solar is so easy.

Man, this’ll get me to fire up a server again. Great game, although building an even sorta-functional nuclear reactor is a mess...I always cheated at that point, getting a blueprint from someone who had more interest in tinkering with it than me.

Amusingly, I’m also avoiding Nuclear power in Satisfactory. It’s a huge pain in the ass to set up, and also has an unremovable, deadly byproduct. I’ll happily stick to my insane oil-burning facilities, thanks.

Fantastic game. I bought it in March 2016. I have put somewhere between 2 and 3 thousand hours into it. Although I haven't really played much since 0.17.xx, they were on 0.18.xx before releasing 1.0. I'll probably fire up a game. I have looked in at the updates occasionally and while it won't be completely new, a lot has been updated since I played last. I am looking forward to it.

Also has a great mod community. Plenty of re-playability.

Cool, although for some reason I thought this game was officially released like a month ago? I must be getting confused with all the EA/Beta titles.
