- Quake 1 to this day with the Darkplaces engine, is beautiful specially the non tech levels, great gameplay, excellent expansions, and amazing campaign mods (Arcane Dimensions, etc, etc, etc, go to www.quaddicted.com, tons of high rated SP maps)
Fans going strong with non-stop new maps releasing often.
- But Quake 2, though excellent in multiplayer, has a joke SP action.
Enemies that run around instead of shooting you, or stand rooted to the ground.
One enemy behind every previsible corner as expected.
Hidden doors with enemy in un-aired closets that spent all day there just waiting for you.
Fuzzy faces, samey corridors, go there and back and get lost and repeat gameplay.
Boring.
Fans' works basically died rapidly years ago.
- No wonder Quake 3 had no single player campaign.
I preferred even the Juggernaut Quake 2 crappy campaign total conversion for better, more interesting gameplay, warts and all, specially in later maps.
A couple weeks ago played Quake 2, couldnt't finish it, hated every dumb game decision.
Doggedly, finished Quake II The Reckoning expansion, boooring.
Should try Ground Zero again, don't remember much.
I suppose there are good SP levels, but the base mechanics will be the same poor mix.
