Next BioShock Set in a "New and Fantastical World"

Some Job Listings from Cloud Chamber offer a hint that BioShock will be set in a new environment (thanks MauroNL). Their description of what to expect should not be surprising after previous installments in the series were set in an underwater city and a floating city. The only question is what they could possibly do to top those efforts. Here's word:
We want you to help us breathe life into a new and fantastical world. Together, we will set the stage for a stunning narrative and systems-driven experience.

Infinite had great world building, but the combat bored me. I got about 80% of the way through, but lost interest.

It goes a little further with Bioshock because if left alone it genuinely concluded, and on a very high note. If they're going to drag the name back in to the open, I hope they have something very worthy to present

You can choose not to care about that, but I value over all story personally. Just like I never want to see a Cowboy Bebop season 2 (or a live adaption, but that's another story).

I am going to be more skeptical because of the lineage of the franchise and because this is decidedly not a new IP. But that's me. I expect a higher standard from a Bioshock game than I would Generic FPS shooter #47 from some no name studio in Belgrade.

I used to, but these days, I mostly detach myself from historical baggage. It isn't as if this is preventing us from getting a different Bioshock game, and if it's good, it's good.

I think my breaking point was Jagged Alliance. There's a franchise that just got passed around by people with no capability of making something good, owned often by publishers with no interest in hiring anyone competent. It's made it easy for me to let go of franchises. Then, seeing so many initially so angry at the new XCOM, it's like, c'mon, XCOM has it so good relatively! If you expect a perfectly faithful XCOM it's a bummer maybe, but if you just want a really fun turn based strategy game, it's one of the best ever made.

Why did you think Infinite was garbage? I'm really harsh on games and i thought infinite was just as good as Bioshock 1 & 2.

In a lot of ways I think it was better than the other 2. It was more ambitious by a wide margin, felt more personal, and did a better job conveying plot.

It's such a good ending too...

I thought Infinite was at times among the best games I'd ever played, and at times too long and frustrating (there's one fight I still remember against Washington's that was a huge pain.)

At its best, when a lot was happening at once and the mechanics we're all clicking, it was definitely worthy of every superlative I could throw at it, and had my attention like few other games.

As for a non-Levine, well, I'll take it like any other new game. If it looks fun and has good reviews, I'll buy it. I won't be any more skeptical than any other new game, but it's just that to me, a new IP, not a product in a family of games I've loved.

I understood all of the Bioshocks. Infinite I understood to be about infinitely intersecting parallel planes of a multiverse when Robert/Rosalind Lutece have you flip a coin. record the result, and the conversation they have afterward.

However, since Ken Levine will not be involved with this iteration of Bioshock, it will require a significant amount of positive reviews for me to be interested.

This is my stance exactly. Bioshock: Infinite to me was genius, and tied the rest of the series into that genius through it's story.

Man, now I'm kinda jonesing for another full playthrough...

I’d love to see a new BioShock on unreal engine 5 with RTX features like ray tracing and DLSS. Seems like such a moody, dark, and artistic game series that it would benefit greatly from it.

Same here. The whole steampunk/Atlas Shrugged quasi-sci-fi setting felt very off-putting. But even that did not bother me as much as the actual gun-play, movement and just plain gameplay design of the original game. After playing that and hating it so much I never even finished it, I never went back to the franchise.
