Anyone heard about modablity? Here's hoping it's possible, what we need is another franchise like TES or Fallout.

Kojima wisely hands over Death Stranding to 505 Games to port to PC and for the most far it is a flawless port.
Guerrilla decides to port Horizon: Zero Dawn to PC themselves and it fails.

Apparently there was a huge patch on release day, too. So if any of you guys are playing offline you might want to log in.

My new pc parts are still coming in so it will be a week before I get to play. Newegg is giving me Assassin's Creed Valhalla, so I might trade it for HZDCE.
And forgot they game me Monster Hunter: World, I never used because it has denuvo. I really need to learn how to Trade on Steam. Sigh

i7-7820 (3.6ghz), 32gig, 1080ti on a 2560x1440 gsync
Most settings maxed, except Shadows and Clouds on High settings.
Average 72, Max 150, min 21

I'm experiencing all the issues from the DF review. The frame-time drops every few moments, creating a split-second hitch. Also the 30 fps facial expression limit is pretty noticeable. Like they said, it gives a subtle claymation effect.

However, no regrets buying this. The gameplay is fantastic, as is the setting. They mentioned they're addressing the issues, so I'm just going to shelve this for now (maybe; the gameplay's addictive) and revisit after I pick up one of the new cards on the way.

I'm a bit shocked they released it in such a state, always hampers sales. I basically expected them to double their sales.
Not only do hungry PC owners want it but console xbox fans will be buying it too, since they didn't get it either (iirc).
But it's currently rated at 6/10 for the Steam release on a quick google check and this game is clearly a 9/10 just on quality.

Yes. But that rule goes for pretty much any AAA title.

The unlock was pretty fast on my SSD (under 10 mins) vs the hour or more with death stranding on my spinning drive.
Some people said it was single threaded, but it's not, I checked and the decrypting process took up all my cores (16 if you count my HT).
It's a bit annoying and I don't understand why it's required in this game and almost no others, but there's a 5-10 min texture optimization kinda routine it has to run first startup.

Also, I'm curious to know other people's results in the in game benchmark (under settings, graphics). See if my experience is an outlier.

On my geforce 2080 graphics card with latest drivers (451.67) specifically for horizon zero dawn, 32gb ram, nvme SSD samsung 970 pro 1tb, and i9-9900 running the built in benchmark it's pretty dang choppy at 1080p and ultra settings. Min FPS is only 16, although it says average is 57. And I can replicate that with only running 30 seconds of the benchmark.

OK, ran the Benchmark, here are my results.

I have a i9-9900K 3.6 Ghz, 32 Gb Corsair Vengeance Ram, Samsung EVO Pro 2TB M.2 3500 Mbps With an EVGA RTX 2080 Super FTW on a Z390 Aorus Ultra MB.

I'm running all of this on an Acer Predator 32 Inch 4K Monitor running at 3840 x 2160 at Ultra Settings in game

I got a score of 8718 Average FPS 52 Max of 103 Min 38 Custom Preset.

Display Mode Borderless,V-Sync on,

I haven't had any in game issues at all with stuttering or any crashes so far.
Gotta say, this game looks gorgeous, and the story has been pretty good. Combat is fun, and the world looks enormous.

I think a few more patches and a newer Video driver update will be conning soon that will only help make the game better and perform better.

So far, I cant complain, the game is everything I hoped it would be and much more.

Been playing for the last 3 hours without any hitches. The install was supremely aggravating and crashed about twice.
Regardless, the game is a lot of fun so far. This is the same engine Death Stranding borrowed from Guerrilla Games.
Interesting that Hideo Kojima was able to put DLSS in his game (HZD doesn't) and overall
I think Death Stranding is a better looking game (doesn't have mobs of huge resource eating robo-dinos of course),
but it's a good engine so, HZD isn't so shabby, either.

I'm on a 2080ti, with a Ryzen 7 3700x, same SSD and ram, and I'm getting average 95 fps at 1440p on ultra in the benchmark. lowest was 16 as well, but I never actually saw it do it, so it literally had to only be for a few frames. Been playing the game with no problems. Only other difference is I'm NOT using the latest drivers. Using 445.75 driver. Forgot to update before running, and it was working fine, other than the warning at launch, so I didn't bother.

DX12 games now do this. They load the textures first.

It's shader optimization, not texture loading. It usually happens on the first startup as well as when you update graphics drivers.

Here...

It starts with the initial 'optimisation' phase on boot. Like a number of DX12 and Vulkan titles, shaders are compiled and stored the first time you play the game - as opposed to generating them during play, potentially inducing stutter. It's an extended process to say the least, it adds to the storage footprint, and if your drive fills up during this procedure, the game crashes to desktop - sometimes with an ominous 'fatal error'. While testing and re-testing across systems, the process could often stall and lock-up even when required storage was available.
