New Star Citizen Alpha

Cloud Imperium Games now offers a new version 3.10 "Flight & Fight" alpha for Star Citizen, the crowdfunded space exploration and combat game. Chris Roberts says this "marks a significant step towards our final vision for Star Citizen," though any sense that this means the game is close to release are tempered by his remark that follows saying "The enhancements to flight and combat systems are just the beginning of the continued overhaul we intend to iterate over time with the help of our community and represents our continued commitment to deliver meaningful updates that improve the Star Citizen experience." The highlight of the new version is said to be "sweeping improvements to Dynamic Flight Mechanics, which makes every single ship in Star Citizen (over 100 and counting) feel unique when within a planet’s atmosphere." They also highlight improvements to dogfighting and combat systems along with the introduction of manned turrets and the introduction of Electron weapons. Here are the full patch notes, here is a Flight & Fight Trailer, and here is more:
With the launch of the Star Citizen — Alpha 3.10: Flight & Fight update, players can look forward to more expanded experiences and deeper immersion. With new dynamic flight systems in place to enable thruster efficiency curves, aerodynamic ship surfaces, and jerk customized to every ship in the game, pilots should expect each ship in Star Citizen to behave differently and with much more individual character. Pilots will feel the difference and the g-force when flying through the atmosphere of a planet compared to battles in space. In short, flying in Star Citizen has never felt more realistic. These new dynamic flight systems are supplemented by major enhancements to fixed weapons and turret systems to make dogfighting and space combat more thrilling.

WHAT EXACTLY ! do you actually do with all this awesome simulation crap if there is no game ??
just fly around & experience empty space..?... Using your imagination of how cool it would be to actually do something ..?
I mean, seriously... how is any backer OK with what little has been made into a playable game state by now ??
WOW, just WOW !
There is a lot of discontent in the community right now. Few features are being added yet performance is getting worse. I have a 8700K andd GTX 1080 Ti yet I'm getting regular drops to 3-9fps and in landing zones it averages around 30-40fps with awful frametimings. Even if all the gameplay was there it wouldn't be playable or enjoyable. And given that CIG has abandoned the roadmaps for S42 and SC there is no indication that things are going to improve any time soon.

People essentially pay ongoing subscriptions for community updates, so CIG painted themselves into a corner. If they decided to go the No Man's Sky route of radio silence to focus on finishing the game, they should come out and tell their backers that. Maybe even cancel subscriptions stating that the community side of their open development takes too much time away from actual development. I don't believe anyone would be up in arms about that. It may even engender goodwill and help people see that CIG is now more focused than ever on completing the game. OR they could keep going the smoke and mirrors route until the game reaches perpetual oblivion, if it hasn't already.

Anyhow, closer to home, I'm looking forward to Microsoft Flight Simulator releasing next Tuesday! Dance

what the fuck does this even mean?

First and foremost.. a game must be FUN... are you going to have to calibrate your flight sensors too? Should this be my job after my regular job? fuck off.
It means that ships are less responsive and more difficult to fly in atmosphere. Some large ships, like the Reclaimer, are now effectively unusable.

CIG can't even produce a video that makes a new release look compelling. All the major features were delayed from the patch and what was left in was still massively delayed and underwhelming. The framerate is worse than ever, which is impressive when it has never performed well.

Chris Roberts does not know what he is doing. He has no idea.

Unacceptable. Flying ships in space would also feel different from each other based on mass and engine power. I refuse to purchase any more JPGs of ships until this is accurately represented in-game.

(Kidding, I haven't given them a dime, nor do I intend to.)

7 and a half years later, Alpha 3 doesn't even have a single canyon or dynamically created cave. Because their terrain engine can't do it. Sigh

Meanwhile, at least NMS has caves and canyons (even if they are completely broken and have zero gameplay relevance)

I doubt it. The contents they promised (star systems with planets you can land and walk on) won't write themselves. I would say 2052 instead of 2025 - or in other words: never. At least not in a state that could be called "close to what they promised and raised money for".

It's kinda no use to comment anything negative. Star Citizen fan will literally have the conversation they want to have; mainly that it's an improvement over previous versions.

I don't know what this will mean for gameplay but it sure makes for pretty Youtube videos.

That's pretty much how CIG operates. Bedazzle the crowd with smoke and mirrors.
