QuakeCon Quake Giveaway

Bethesda is promising all Bethesda.net members who tune in for QuakeCon a free copy of Quake. If their charity initiative hits their first goal, these members will also receive a free copy of Quake II (thanks RedEye9). Here are the details on the plan, in case anyone who's planning on watching the show doesn't already own both games:
Celebrate QuakeCon from Your Living Room
The 25th annual QuakeCon will be the first ever remote QuakeCon - but that won't stop us from fragging with friends and raising money to do good in the world. So, mark your calendars for this free online event!

Kicking off August 7 and ending August 9, QuakeCon At Home will be filled with round-the clock programming featuring:

  • Developer Streams with Game Updates
  • Special Influencer Streams
  • Esports Tournaments
  • Charity Fundraising
  • More Surprises!

Tune in to QuakeCon At Home as a Bethesda.net member and you will receive the original Quake game on PC for free! In addition, if we hit our first fundraising goal of $10,000, you will receive Quake II for free!

That easy, huh? I really hate it when companies require to use their softwares. Steam, GoG, Humble Bundle (thanks for that free F1 2018 game!), Epic Games, Origin, etc. don't force that to get games! I can understand requiring to download and play. I am just a hoarder. I wonder if they will give out Quake 2 too soon.

So, do we have to watch the whole event to get this free Quake 1 game? I logged into my old account on its web site but didn't see its free game offer?
how to get the freebies
Get Quake for Free! – Throughout the weekend of QuakeCon, players can log in to the Bethesda Launcher and obtain a free digital copy of the original Quake. You must be logged into the Launcher with your Bethesda.net account credentials during QuakeCon weekend to receive the free game. If you’re already logged in, you may need to log out and log back in to see the game show as “owned.” (If you don’t see the game as “owned,” click “Check for Updates” under the Launcher menu.)
Donate for Quake II – If donations reach the $10,000 mark, all players will have the opportunity to pick up a free digital copy of Quake II on the Bethesda launcher at a point to be announced soon after the event. You will be able to claim your free copy of Quake II the same way you claimed your copy of Quake.
Thanks. Argh, the launcher won't show up on my very old updated 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 machine.
I installed it yesterday on my Win7 laptop. So it is 7 compatible.

If you’ve previously had it installed you might have to uninstall it, reboot and reinstall a fresh “up-to-date” copy
I never used the launcher before so it's brand new. Blah. I wished it could do a web site instead. I hope https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/35403/kw/launcher ideas works. I already have the (lat/new)est drivers in this anicent box.
That’s too weird. My laptop is a pos from 2012 with integrated graphics.

All I know is the initial download is 35 MB. Once you get that It then downloads 65 meg of additional Installation files.
Also the launcher runs like a slug on my low end laptop.

Do you have another box you can try it on?
Good Luck

PS
If worse comes to worse I would be willing to log out of my Bethesda net launcher and log you in (Or you could have a friend do the same) until your account got the games and then log back out. You could change the password afterwards. It sounds like you don’t have anything in there anyway.

If you want to do something like that you could use the send mail feature of this forum.

PPS
Nevermind
If you can’t open th launcher it still wouldn’t matter.
I tried Vista SP2 compatiblity and lowering all details. I will have to try another PC or give up (still have my original Q1 retail CD :P). Too bad there are Linux and mac OS clients.
Not adding insult to injury, but I just launched the client and hit the update and lo and behold, Quake 1 appeared in my library.

There is no mention of the free game offer on their website.
Probably won't show up, if at all, until QuakeCon gets underway.
Both 1 and 2 are currently on sale for a buck fiddy. ($1.50)

I have the original Quake 1 retail CD, with its NiN audio tracks, from 1996. It has that Windows 95 installer. It also has the full game inside so one could crack if they know how.

Same. I think it came with some gaming magazine or something. It has the shareware Quake on it that could be unlocked when you order it and it turns into the full version, but that was quickly cracked, and it still had the CD audio tracks too. I remember and miss those days.
Hah, I have that shareware disk stashed away somewhere as well. Though it wasn't just the full version of Quake that could be unlocked, all of id Software's games up to that point were also on the disk and could be unlocked or copied off with the same crack. Wow, what nostalgia.
