Just as I was about to store the post I thought it might have been you instead of JD, but decided not to take the time to edit it. Ah well...

Somewhere, somehow, it entered the American consciousness that admitting you made a mistake or were ever wrong is something you shouldn't do. Obviously not everyone thinks that way, but it is far more common than you would imagine or that it should be. Admitting you were wrong is hard to do, and our litigious society doesn't make it any easier. Trump is a perfect example. He has never made a mistake, has never been wrong, and has no regrets -- just ask him.

As someone here has quoted a couple of times on this site (JD, maybe?):
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge. -- Issac Asimov
Unfortunately, Issac was exactly right.

Politicians don't want educated people. Educated people don't blindly follow wherever they are led.

Ah, American concepts are always so funny.
We do our best to be complete idiots most every chance we get. The good parts are few and far between, especially recently.

But see, this is what I do not understand, like not even remotely. I just don't understand what your nations goal is in indebting young adults who want to become better people.

As an American, I don't understand the Right's apparent anger over public education and the concept that we should care about children after they've left the womb (health, clothing, education, etc)--but whatever. We do our best to shame the poor and rob them of any help to try to better their situation--and then try to dismantle government for its failures.
