Out of the Blue

So I watched a bit of a Mets game as the delayed Major League Baseball season finally got underway last week. It was odd, with photos of fans in the seats behind home plate, umpires wearing masks, and piped-in crowd noise. But all-in-all it was less abnormal than I expected. There's an interesting story about this on The Verge saying that Fox Sports plans on filling in the stadiums with virtual fans created in the Unreal Engine (thanks Neutronbeam). That should be pretty interesting.

Obituary: Gone With the Wind star Olivia de Havilland dies at 104.
Obituary: R.I.P. John Saxon.

Virtual Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.

You score poorly on that reading comprehension test. Slow down and digest the structure of the sentence rather than skim through looking for buzzwords to highlight.

Right?

I suppose it's semantics or grammar, but he's right.

If someone told me something happened "after a peaceful demonstration intensified"...

I'd be like 'Oh, did Monks show up to intensify the peace, and the demonstration lead to productive discussion?'

There was a peaceful protest for many hours.
Then some additional people showed up and it became not peaceful.

Agreed. A "peaceful" demonstration cannot be violent.

It's a poorly constructed sentence, and just goes to show the pitfalls of Twitter as a communication medium. Even when used by a major media outlet, that should know better. Or as the OP suggests, is being manipulative. I just think the person behind that ABC tweet is incompetent.

A peaceful demonstration can turn violent.
This isn't a hard concept. My kitchen once had fruit flies after a delicious apple turned rotten. A rotten apple can't be delicious, but an apple that sits on your counter can be delicious prior to turning rotten.

Basic grammar. Stop trying to hard to be outraged and offended.

I'm not trying to be outraged or offended. I just recognize the original poster's point and believe it has some merit.

You're fruit fly statement has a completely different grammatical structure to the original tweet, therefore, is irrelevant to this discussion. It's just basic, but you can try again, if you'd like.

Well...
Thanks for that.

The Washington Post found that eight people lost vision in one eye after being struck by police projectiles, including lead pellets packed in cloth pouches that were fired from shotguns. They were among 12 people who were partially blinded by police during a week of national unrest.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2020/07/14/george-floyd-protests-police-blinding/
Of the eight who lost sight that day, six were protesters, one was a photojournalist, and another was a passerby. Drawing on cellphone and surveillance videos, along with other records, The Post reconstructed the circumstances of three of those incidents in detail.

Watch the video above to see what happened — and to compare it with the official accounts of those incidents and with police department rules on when officers are permitted to use force.

Have you seen a single photo of Portland? It's not the most diverse city. The mobs there aren't "black people," and yeah, your post says something about you.
Even if you ignore that no "mob" is beating people and children other than the authorities.

Duh, this is standard robber baron corporate media boilerplate.

* if a citizens demonstrate or protest and the oligarchy approves of their goal it gets reported as: Americans voice their concerns about X, with no mention of any crimes that may have been committed in the same vicinity by anybody.

* if citizens demonstrate or protest and the oligarchy dis-approves of their goal, it gets reported as:
Protestors/Demonstrators event leads to X, Y, Z crimes in the vicinity, while failing to provide context that the crimes were most likely not perpetrated by the same people.

Bonkers race, I've never seen such hot temperatures (+140*F track temp in Sector 3?) push man and machine to the point of failure. All the points weren't paid out because no one finished after Cal in 13th! He even pitted from pain and the team told him, just make it to the finish line, so he went back out.

One of the most interesting things about this to me is the realization of how much of the universe is on many levels "unobservable" because the bulk of the Milky Way gets in the way. I knew this was a problem, but the visual demonstration of that limitation really highlights the issue so well.
