Top Steam Releases for June

The Steam Blog outlines the top Steam releases for June 2020. This page has links to all the games, and here's an overview:
Electronic Arts (EA) stormed the charts this month, racking up eight of the Top 20 New Releases for June (Battlefield™ V, Command & Conquer™ Remastered Collection, Crysis® 3, Dragon Age™ Inquisition, Need for Speed™ Heat, The Sims™ 4, STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II, and Titanfall® 2). EA’s developer list for these titles reads like of a who’s who of game studios, with DICE, Maxis, BioWare, Crytek and Respawn all making appearances on June’s Top 20. No one can be sure what games will end up on future lists, but with EA already announcing several upcoming titles, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them here again.

Along with EA’s huge showing in June, developer Quantic Dream also claimed two spots this month with their story-driven hits, Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls. June also saw the Steam debuts of two incredibly popular franchises as fans all over the world rejoiced in the arrival of both SpongeBob SquarePants & Megami Tensei. Traditionally, you’d see a batch of big name releases like this during a holiday season. But the old notion of seasonality is becoming more and more out of date. No matter the weather outside or the day of the week - it’s always a good time to find your favorite Top Release on Steam.

Thing is, from what I've heard EA's games still require Origin to launch (SWToR doesn't require it normally, so I assume that one's an exception).

May as well just keep purchasing on Origin. imo.

One less company that has my credit card info. That's why.

Why would you care? Are you implying that your credit card info could me mis-used if you use it at more than one online digital store? You know that you're not liable for any misuse of a credit card right? Also, there is to my knowledge zero cases of this ever happening with other gaming storefronts.

I mean, it's kinda like saying that you'd prefer exchanging all your American dollars to Disney Bucks, because you only want to ever spend them in a Disney theme park. It literally makes no sense.

Oh and as a general PSA:

BUY CYBERPUNK 2077 ON GOG. CANCEL YOUR OTHER PLATFORM PREORDER.

This.
If they gave me a steam key for doing so... I would.
Which would be free to them if they wanted to offer that service.

wat?

First paragraph of the article, bro:

As a reminder, we measure monthly Top Releases by looking at revenue generated during the first two weeks after launch. We're also showcasing the Top 5 free-to-play games released in June, measured by total unique players.

Well, I did say that I skimmed, but I didn’t skip that. It says first two weeks of launch, many of these titles had launched before on Steam. The F2P is obviously pretty clear. :p

I feel like this must be mentioned somewhere, and I am just skimming past it (the dreaded curse of the mobile...), but ‘top releases’ seems slightly vague. Is this just new sales since the return, does it count past returned sales l, or is this counting active players?

Location location location.

Walmart. Walmart Walmart.

I wonder what kind of sweetheart deal finally got struck, and who did the negotiations. From all sounds of it Gabe is a reasonable man, just sometimes hard to approach as he's pretty insulated. Seems like there's finally starting to be some movement in the Valve heirarchy, which is good.

If it was me I'd push for like 5%, but I bet it was closer to 10-15% which is still such a ridiculously huge monstrously large chunk of change...

Imagine 15% of EA's entire catalogue, all for accepting a credit card then pointing them towards Origin to DL their game... sigh.

Something less than Epic's 12% is what I'm hoping for, something like 8%, that I could swallow as a marketing cost. Even though they still have to do all their own marketing.

Yep, all that pent up steam demand for EA games from people who don't want to use origin (or maybe waiting for a good sale, or maybe didn't know some of the titles, etc).
EA is fine with it, they got their distro platform and marketshare established, and they had enough money they didn't care about the initial hit.
