Sea of Thieves Sells 1M on Steam

Xbox Wire says Sea of Thieves has now surpassed the 15 million player mark on all platforms since launching in March 2018. This is an increase of five million sales this year alone, and they say over one million of those have been on Steam since Rare's pirate adventure game set sail there on June 3rd:
It’s both thrilling and humbling to share with you that Sea of Thieves has been played by more than fifteen million players since our launch in March 2018.

The way that the game and its community has continued to grow has been amazing to see. It was only in January of this year when we shared that 10 million people had played the game! We’re also humbled that more people have played Sea of Thieves in the first six months of 2020 than who played in the whole of 2019, which was more than 2018.

Last month – June 2020 – was also the biggest month so far for Sea of Thieves in terms of active players, with more than 3.3M players setting sail. A contributing factor to this growth has been our recent launch on Steam. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve seen from the Steam community, with over 1M copies of the game having been sold so far and the game regularly appearing in the top selling and most played games charts.

On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far. It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come. See you on the seas.

I have watched my sons watch other people playing this game .... and I don't see the appeal.
It's doesn't look all that great or fun , for more than maybe 30 mins...
It's a low stress PvP/PvE experience that you can do with a few friends. No high stakes leaderboard or redbull twich skills. Just sit around, drink beer, shoot the shit, and sail the high seas knocking out quests and hunting scallawags!

Glad to see they finally built out the game. This title was pure bargain bin material at launch. Seems like so many other titles have done this lately... Launch the skeleton and add the game content over the next 12 months. Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76, No Man's Sky, etc... On one hand, I think it is a piss poor thing to do to consumers (particularly early adopters)...but on the other, it means I wait a year, buy it for a quarter the release price and get the full (really this time) game.

Maybe GAAS isn't so bad if they stick with it. You're description though does nothing for me in selling it, shit ton of low stress building type games out for years now.
