EA's Positive Play Charter

Electronic Arts offers a new Positive Play Charter to help govern online user behavior to foster a better environment for all (thanks PCGamesN). They threaten to ban or suspend offenders, and for recidivists, there is the possibility of having your account terminated. They offer details on how they are asking users to follow these four tenets:
Help us help you:

  • Treat others as they would like to be treated - Don’t engage or promote harmful behavior including attacks on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, country of origin, etc. or unwelcome sexual advances and messages.
  • Keep Things Fair - No cheating or giving yourself an unfair advantage
  • Share Clean Content - Create and share stuff that’s appropriate
  • Follow Local Laws - Keep it legal in our games and services, just as you would wherever you are IRL

Possibly the dumbest company statement put out to date. Like, DUH.... Captain Obvious .

hackers, criminals and the like don't follow society laws but as long as EA puts out a statement, we will all be cool now !?

Treat others as they would like to be treated

I agree with everything else after that part, but this sentence (by itself) makes me cringe.

Treating people with respect, dignity, and fairness is a fine code to live by.

But treating people how THEY want to be treated? That's the thinking that lead to racism is the first place: 'I want to be treated better than you, because I am...' okay, now we're back where we started EA

They forgot World Peace.

But also, what if local laws clash. What if I'm playing a game about smoking da erb and having abortions?

Skipping past the cancer in this thread...

"no cheating" LAWL

Tell that to the players that have been cheating in SWBF2 since launch, and I'm talking about confirmed hackers, instantly killing all 20 enemies before the round even starts lol. They openly admit it, they've been reported hundreds if not thousands of times, and they never get banned. I've even been in a server, in a party with 2 EA game testers who specifically test for this game, we got 3x POV shadowplay clips of obvious hacking, they submitted it through official and back channels.

NOTHING.

Motherfuckers are still hacking.

It's only like 3 guys, but it's the same names since launch, same hacks, and nothing happens.

Fuck you EA. If you gave a shit about what you claim to preach you wouldn't be so asleep at the wheel.

They need to give out e-badges for trusted community members to self-police. If they aren't going to pay a human to read the hacker reports, let alone do anything about it, give us the power. If any of us abuse it even once, we lose our whole account. I'd sign that deal. Remember community-run servers? Yeah, you take away that, take away the server browser, and then completely ignore hackers. But they give account bans to people using certain (CLIENT SIDE) skin mods in MP.

FUICKIDY FUCK.
