Destiny 2 New Season Today, New Expansion in September

Bungie announces Destiny 2: Beyond Light, a new expansion for Destiny 2 that will come to the first-person shooter on September 22nd. They also announce that besides the version for Windows and current consoles, this is destined to see the light of day on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 when the new consoles arrive. They offer a first look at what to expect in this Reveal Trailer. They also launched Season of Arrivals in the game today, and offer a Prophecy Dungeon Gameplay Trailer to show off what to expect. Here's a full video of the reveal stream running about 45 minutes. This page has videos covering all they revealed today. This page has all the details on the Season of Arrivals and this one discusses the new expansion. The game is free-to-play, but they are offering preorders of a Deluxe Edition and a Collector's Edition, which each include a season pass along with additional goodies, including instant access to a special Exotic Ghost Shell and Legendary Emblem. Here's more on Beyond Light:
Destiny 2: Beyond Light
A new power is born out of the ancient Pyramid ship above Europa, and a dark empire has risen beneath. In the Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion, Guardians will explore a changed universe, with a new destination, new adventures, and even new powers to explore.

Explore Europa: In Beyond Light, Guardians will be called to a new destination: Jupiter’s frozen moon of Europa. Brave the unrelenting glacial frontier, infiltrate the Golden Age Braytech facility, and uncover the secrets that lie deep under the ancient ice.

Wield the Darkness: As a new threat emerges, so too does a mysterious new power – Stasis. Rooted in Darkness, Guardians will wield this new elemental power alongside Arc, Solar, and Void to summon epic supers and control the battlefield. Titans, Warlocks and Hunters will each use Stasis in a different way. More details on Stasis to come later this summer.

A New Raid: Below the frozen tundra of Europa lies the Deep Stone Crypt. For decades it has remained dormant. Guardians will test their skill and teamwork in this brand new six-person raid, where glorious rewards await.

The Rise of Eramis: The splintered houses of the Fallen have rallied and built their new empire on Europa, united under the banner of the Fallen Kell of Darkness, Eramis. Abandoned by the Traveler and left by the Light, Eramis is on her own journey into the Darkness, and towards a collision course with Guardians.

I actually have more fun playing Anthem then Destiny 2, now anyway. At launch, not so much.

They are cutting the FTP game, I take it that goes away?

They are cutting the original game that people paid $60 for. Some only own that.

They are cutting because PS4 and Xbox it is taking up too much room on that and we all have to be even.

Some content will come back from time to time as cameos.

From what I've read, one of the sections they're "getting rid of" has an install size of 5GB+ on your HDD, but only 0.3% of players bother with it.

So they're removing bad content that no one cares about and wastes space in your install, which is already 100GB-165GB.
The game has 30 - 40gb+ of uncompressed sound files.

Also, popular =/= bad. In a GaaS grinder, you go where the artificial levelling mechanism dictates you go, for efficient loot gains. Meaning Bungie, not the player, has created the 0.3% usage rate, and is using that statistic to sell the idea of reselling content to the player as a positive.

I thought the Destiny art choice had potential but became drab, the gun mechanics were lackluster, plus a grind against AI and scripted events, and any PVP elements were not worth trudging through the aforementioned.

they are getting to the point they have no choice it seems.

Literally the only fanbase gullible enough to to buy into it, at that.

You paid for it. They're taking it away. It's that simple. If the engine can't cope, rewrite the engine. If they no longer have the expertise to do that, perhaps because they lost it in the split with Activision, then they should be releasing a third standalone title.

There are no excuses, and on one should be giving Bungie money to reward such behaviour, lest every other skivvy developer out there will jump on the bandwagon.

Sunsetting weapons has already been outted today as an excuse to extend the grind, since they're pushing the exact same weapons back at you. Do you honestly believe DCV is anything but the same marketing trick?

Well I won't speak to their humor on it, but as for removing content, they are getting to the point they have no choice it seems. The engine and underlying systems of the game can't just take adding new content over and over anymore according to some speculation from people and apparently a leak from Bungie awhile back sorta confirmed this. Which is why they are doing this vault thing, which I imagine will be a separate install or client altogether. Plus there is plenty of legacy content from before Forsaken came out even, that is barely touched unless you are just grinding materials or bounties etc nowadays. So they could do worse than "remove" that content (and put it elsewhere for those who do want to play it). And they are also adding Destiny 1 content to that vault thingy, which I'm all for as someone who never played D1.

Despite the base game being free, I haven't played it yet but it sure sounds promising: FPS with RPG elements in a (hopefully) well done sci-fi setting... Maybe I'll try it before it goes offline.
