Sega Europe Ltd. and The Creative Assembly Ltd today announced that A Total War Saga: TROY™ will launch exclusively via the Epic Games Store on August 13, 2020, free to keep for players who download within the first 24 hours.
Using Total War's BAFTA award-winning marriage of grand turn-based strategy and spectacular real-time battles, A Total War Saga: TROY™ plunges players into the legendary Bronze-Age conflict of the Trojan War, where they assume the roles of Achilles, Hector, and many other legendary heroes as they fight to defend the great city of Troy... or raze it to the ground.
"Thanks to Epic, we're able to offer a Total War title for free on its launch day. It's a hugely exciting thing for us to be able to do for our players," says Tim Heaton, Chief Studios Officer at Sega Europe Ltd. "Not only does this mean that we can bring the tales and legends of TROY to a wide audience through Epic's massive platform, but it also means new players will get to try Total War for the first time, experiencing the unique gameplay that the series is famous for."

So yeah this one is not looking good based on the previews. It looks like they outsourced much of the design even. Gameplay looks simplistic and even the design UI elements were clearly done by different teams with totally disparate unit cards vs interface UI. The unit balance and bizarre half step into mythology is embarrassing. It's clear that they are putting this out to die on the EGS and are just taking the fat sack of cash. I highly doubt my earlier assumption of more DLC too. Apparently DLC isn't selling very well on the EGS, several devs have reneged or are backing out after a few high profile projects basically spent their exclusivity paycheck on developing DLC and got burned. I would be surprised if they did anything else after the Amazon DLC for this and that was clearly lopped off to sell.
I really love Total War games but this is looking like a B effort at best. Real shame.

I have several of the total war series games, they seem to get worse every year. I am not sure what the attraction is now, especially since you have to buy a bunch of DLC with each game.
Epic can have them, for a strategy game there mechanics are getting really old.

I've purchased every DLC for Warhammer 1 and Warhammer 2.. I've purchased almost no DLCs for any other total war game...
I think warhammer 1 & 2 are unique in that the factions are all very different instead of the same archers in every army.
Same here. I think they are going to go more mythical with this one which creates more opportunity to do Warhammer 2 style DLC though.
Like chimera and minotaur and stuff? That would be cool.

up until epic almost all games were exclusive to steam and all the fight and cry babies that got there gamestop games box with a steam slip and code inside never did a thing to stop it. and in the end just accepted there fate and are now cry babies fan boys complaining about epic. I can totally see this going the same way after all they were all weak in the mind before and nothing has really changed now.

"We currently have no plans for any future games to be Epic exclusives. We do want to be more platform agnostic moving forward, and we would like future games to be available on the Epic Games Store, but that’s in addition to being available on other platforms such as Steam."
"In the meantime, we're glad to take that sweet, sweet cash from Epic so we all can run out and buy ourselves Ferraris."

If you read the FAQ and blog (linked in the FAQ) you'll learn about some of their plans, which do include a launch day DLC (Amazon faction).

They must have huge DLC plans for this.

More platform agnostic? More like the ROI isn't nearly what they thought it would be with exclusives so they're dumping them finally.
You mean they (Creative Assembly) are dumping to be Steam exclusive? Yeah. It looks like it. Because that quote was from a tweet by Creative Assembly.
Epic will certainly keep trucking with their exclusives. The coffers must be very well filled thanks to corona virus lockdown Fortnite spending. That's probably why they are having that 24h freebie in the first place.
