Codemasters Gets Official WRC Rights

Racing specialist Codemasters has secured the rights to make official games based on the FIA World Rally Championship series. This deal begins in 2023, and VGC says they understand that current license holder Bigben Interactive will continue to release WRC games between now and then. They also say that in the meantime Codies will continue to developer the DiRT series. "We’ve discussed bringing our passion and world-class rally game experience to represent the world’s premier rally championship on many occasions. We believe we can grow the franchise in the same way we have for Formula 1," a Codemasters spokesperson tells them. "We are excited about finally bringing WRC to our portfolio of racing games, something which our passionate community of players has been requesting for a long time."

Well after WRC 8 was yanked off Steam literally a day before launch last year and it seems we're not getting WRC 9 either on Steam, I guess Codemasters having the rights means we might actually get WRC games back on Steam instead of EGS for a year wait. I'm still waiting for WRC 8 to launch on Steam, I think it's in August but I haven't followed it since pulled that garbage before launch.

Too bad we have to wait 3 years, but good move by Codies to properly segment its rally franchises between casual fun and simcade. Hopefully it can deliver more authentic representations of the FIA calendar, with longer stages.

Well put. Codemasters is headed in a good direction.
