Factorio to End Early Access Early

Friday Facts #349 on the Factorio Blog has the 1.0 plan for Factorio, revealing Wube Software will officially launch their factory simulation on Friday, August 14th. (thanks Eurogamer). They previously planned to roll this out on September 25th, but the early end to Early Access is because with Cyberpunk 2077 delayed until September 17th, they are moving the game up around five weeks to avoid being overshadowed by CD Projekt RED's eagerly anticipated RPG. They say that besides some rapid progress they've made, this is also possible because of changes they've cut or postponed:
Descoped goal
When we announced the date (FFF-321), we had plans for many things to be in the final release. The main topics were the new campaign, fluid algorithm improvements, and the full GUI rewrite. Due to independent reasons, we have cancelled the new campaign (FFF-331), postponed the fluid improvements, and cut a lot of the aspects of the GUI rewrite (FFF-348).

Staying on schedule
Apart from descoping some features, the other work we've been doing has been progressing at a good pace. The 0.18 experimental release structure (FFF-314) is really helping to keep things on track. The original estimate was made with some concession for delays, that "things always take longer than expected". Well for the last 6 months, most things haven't been taking longer than expected, and we've been finishing topics quite effectively.

The sooner the better
The general feeling in the office is that the game is pretty much done, and that we want to get it released as soon as possible. The sooner we get some closure on version 1.0, the sooner we can start thinking about fun and exciting new things.

Cool, cool cool cool. I've been wavering on giving in and buying this on EGS for awhile now, I'll probably still wait until the release version hits GOG or Steam though.

It's not on EGS and it's already on Steam and GOG. Did you get it mixed up with another game, like Satisfactory?

Ah yes, I did exactly that.

To be fair both games interest me, and I got Factorio months ago on Steam, but have only played it a little; I was waiting for the final release.

Substitute Satisfactory in my original post.

Honestly Factorio hasn't changed that much in the last few years. Wube have been stuck on that hardest part of game dev, the last 10% of polish. I would consider it 1.0 as is and has been for a year or two at least, though the new icons are very pretty and the GUI could use some makeup.

Fortunately, it's been more stable and bug free than any released game I have have played for more than 4 years. Especially once they got the MP smooth. Game browser still sucks but that's my only gripe, playing with friends is still a blast. Vanilla is still amazing. Mod potential is insane. It's like kerbal without the performance issues (Or physics so I'm not ragging on kerbal here).

Don't care about losing the campaign, it never seemed that promising. Ideally if it was an MP style version of Supcom with the expanding map it would have been amazing but not worth not playing over. Every map and settings setup is a whole new adventure.

I love the chill factor in Railworlds personally, and setting up the signals for complex multi-train rail networks is my favorite thing about the game. Though in MP you want nasty ass Biters to expand and threaten you to keep you all on your toes.

Wait that's my second complaint. The game setup is super flexible, scenarios effectively infinite but can be hard to understand what kind of game you are going to get. Some more presets tuned for fun would be good!

As for Satisfactory it's a different kind of thing, and nowhere near version 1.0 as far as I can tell so probably safe to wait on it. A bit of a Hybrid between factorio and Subnautica. At first it seems way more shallow than Factorio but the 3d, vertical factories actually look more insane than anything in Factorio but it takes me forever just to get a crappy setup going, I think I will also wait till later to get into it, though it's still worth the money. Maybe if I can find someone to MP with it would feel more satisfying.

I love this game, I have 219 hours in it so far, I love that you don't need "currency" like in a lot of other building games like sim city etc..

Took me a while and some YouTube vids to better understand some parts of the game, but once I did it felt great to keep expanding and automating stuff.

You're right, sounds like he is talking about Satisfactory, not Factorio. I mistakenly read his comment as simply "been thinking of getting this on Steam". That said, I stand by what I said about Factorio. Oh, and Satisfactory is supposed to be on Steam on June 8th.

Satisfactory - highly addictive for me. I must have played at least 200 hrs of different versions but now I am holding back until version 1.0 gets released and they don't change the basic gameplay and features anymore.

Just buy it directly from Wube. That way they get all the money and you get zipped copies of the game which are exactly the same as Steam versions. If you like building/logistics games and haven't played it you are missing out. It is a great game. The vanilla game has easily got hundreds of hours of play in it and the mod community is large and offers lots of options -- from some great QoL improvements to complete reworks of the entire manufacturing processes...

*EDIT* As pointed out, I erred grievously. I was thinking of Satisfactory! Factorio is also cool though, looking forward to the release version.
