The Witcher Bewitches More Than 50M

CD Projekt RED tweets that The Witcher franchise has surpassed an impressive sales milestone (thanks Game Informer). Word is more than 50 million customers have tossed a coin to your Witcher:
Over 50 million adventurers joined Geralt on his journey from Kaer Morhen to Vizima, through Flotsam and Vergen, Velen and Novigrad to Skellige Isles and Toussaint, and many, many more places, time and time again…

Thank you and may we meet on the path again! ⚔️

Oof, yeah, gonna take an extra 3 seconds to add a F2P game to my library... Oh wait, I'm already done!

I bought 1 and 2 in boxes, which is what you did at the time. Since then I've gotten those two again during cheap sales on both GoG and Steam, and also got W3 and expansions. Played each game at least twice to finish. I assume (and hope) they have a plan for more after Cyberpunk. I wonder if they're counting only sales figures on that 50 million, since it's been DRM free on gog for years now and easy to pirate? Could they even tell?

I know it was early in the game. I made it a bit further than that but that fight sticks in my memory (was a while ago). But you're right, I gave up too soon.

Haha, you remind me when I had pirated it at launch (I know I know). I just heard all the hype but didn't now enough about the series to drop 60 bucks on it. It looked beautiful from the screenshots so I wanted to see what it was all about. I remember the opening fight with the ghouls actually following the conversation with Vesemir. Game set the graphic mood immediately. Despite that, something about it I couldn't get into right away. I like ended as soon as I reached the first tavern and talked to some dudes there. Uninstalled and deleted my pirated copy.

Move along a couple years and Steam is having a sale on everything for real cheap. I was like, ah what the hell, let me give it 1 more shot and actually own it. By owning it, it would give me more incentive to play it longer than I initially did. I think as soon as I reached the Baron story I was completely sold. From there everything was history in my books.

I only wish maybe I bought it at full price to support the devs on launch but I truly didn't know what I was getting into then. Since then I bought ThroneBreaker, Witcher 1 and 2, will 100% pick up Cyberpunk. CDPR made me a life long fan.

Already I am missing Geralt again...;)

This was pretty much my feeling after beating W3 the first time. I took me from like May to Nov. to complete it and the expansions my first time. Playing around 1-2 hours a day or so with some days off obviously. I was in no rush and don't got that much gaming time these days.

I just finished my second completion and was literally milking it for as long as I could because I didn't want it to end. It's like every time I would fire it up, it was a new medieval/fantasy soap opera/drama I was going to be apart of. Every story with a twist and the writing so rich. Seriously, the writing is what makes it.

I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey and can see the W3 inspirations it has including dialogue selecting and the way the characters faces are portrayed during conversation. The similarities end when you see the bad acting and very mediocre dialogue. It's a shame because the graphics are phenomenal and the voices sound of high quality and taken seriously.

Good deal...and here I was thinking I'm the only one who is sorry when a great RGP ends...;) I always slow down near the end of a really good game!

Good for CD Projekt
I bought Witcher3 from gog to show support for them. While the story looks interesting enough, the gameplay felt very lacking. The combat is awkward and not fun.
The first major fight I had with a Griffin thing near a windmill...the Griffin got stuck head-first in the wind mill. There it was still flapping away but not moving.
I need to give it another chance because everyone raves about it and I want to love it too. But other games with better combat (which is the main reason I enjoy games) have so far pulled me away.

Wow dude, that's the end of the tutorial, so you didn't even get to the actual game?

I'm playing through Witcher 1 now, and haven't had any issues with the combat. If anything, it's too simplistic. Click on monster, wait for flaming sword, click again, repeat ad nauseam. Throw in the occasional potion, style change, or sign. I'm dying a lot more than I ever did in Skyrim, though, so it's more challenging combat despite the simplicity.

I tried the Witcher 1 but it was too rough for me to even attempt to get the story out of it. The combat was so janky and non-responsive to my keys. Not sure if that was normal but it felt difficult to play. Enough for me to pass.

Witcher 2 is better but also rough around the edges with combat. It's also way more linear than 3 but that was expected. Actually, the graphics were highly impressive considering how long ago it came out now. I think a lot more people can definitely get into that one than part 1, even nowadays.

3 is still considered the GOAT game of my lifetime.

That's pretty much the exact same for me.

I think half the reason for these announcements is so CDPR can stick it to Sapowski. Imagine if he had made a deal for a buck a game instead of 10 grand. I know CDPR gave him a little more to be nice but ouch!
