Op Ed

  • PC Gamer - The Assassin's Creed series has failed its best idea.
"In other words, if they were a goodie, they were in league with the Assassins, and if they were a baddie, they were backed by the Templars. Except not only are real people never actually straightforward goodies or baddies, this categorisation is made regardless of how their political beliefs might actually have aligned with either secret society. Surely more interesting—and accurate—tales would come out of looking at which historical figures fought for order and peace through strong rule, and which favoured individual freedom and responsibility, regardless of where they fall on a hazy moral spectrum? Wouldn't the Assassin-Templar war be far more compelling if it stuck to a foundation beyond 'stealthy murderers are good, kings and businessmen are evil'?"

I like the AC games since Origins. Didn't give a shit about the convoluted Desmond story. Don't give a shit about PC Gamers over-analytical pseudo-intellectual/-philosophical article one. single. bit.

Looking forward to Valhalla. Because of the new formula. I will again care nothing about the Templar/Assassin story and all about the adventures of the protagonist.

Assassin's Creed failed after the death of Desmond. Sure, pretty much everybody loved A.C. Black Flag IV but the Desmond/Minerva tale ended at A.C. III and one of the original developers, years later, said that they had intended the final of the series to be A.C. III. Execs in several interviews for years said "We know where this is going. We know where the story will continue" but they were just trying to milk it for all it's worth. The final battle of Minerva took place in a freaking comic book of all things - A.C. Uprising.

Cutter in which AC game did you rape someone?

But the random mudering/stealing in the last 2 games (Odyssey and Origin) I really can't stand. If I accidentally steal something villiagers will come after me and THEN it's totally ok to kill them, or any number of pets.
I miss having to blend into crowds or remain undetected while going to a target/objective.

It seems that since Origin the core of the game has gotten lazy. Hell as I play through Odyssey there are so many cheat skills that it makes Eve's Cloaking device in Syndicate look mundane.

As for the article (didn't read), Rogue was a great title that explored "the other side".

From what I've read from some of the dev interviews, it seems like AC: Valhalla is bringing back certain elements from the older AC games such as one-hit assassination kills and crowd-blending. I doubt they're fully going back to certain older gameplay elements from the series, but fortunately there are some stuff that they seem to be bringing back.

How do you blend into a crowd as a viking in the other cities in the game?

You questioning the intelligence of others has to be one of the most amusing posts you have ever made.

Why? It wouldn't be the first time a lot of you have clearly demonstrated you're dumber than a sack full of hammers. I don't even know how to make it more abundantly clear than it already is. Yet several of you, unsurprisingly, don't seem to get it.

He's saying that it's not black and white but rather shades of gray...
Do you disagree?

I'm not sure what you think the other posters are confused about.

It's fun that Cutter responds to an article about the detriments of broad strokes with an enormously broad stroke.

Yeah, I thought the idea of portraying assassins as heroes was weird. Tell the orphans you've just created you're a hero.
