I still remember the demo from the first time round. It came on one of those revolutionary CD-ROM thingies.

Never played SS1. Loved SS2.
Is SS1 worth it?

If you liked SS2 for it's world and story and open gameplay style then you would really like SS1 too. If I recall SS2 kind of narrowed down some of the mechanics in comparison to SS1.

Either way, I enjoyed both quite a lot.

Eh? I think SS2 had a ton of mechanics added on. Stats, skills, inventory Tetris, psychic powers, weapons degradation, credits, research, character creation. SS1 had cyberspace and rather more cyberware to play with. I liked SS1 a lot better, but not because it had more mechanics going on.

I'm kind of sad they pulled back on the remake's scope. I played through the previous version of the demo (I think backers only?); it was nostalgic, but I don't see playing through the full game more than once. What they wanted to expand into was more like what happened with the Resident Evil 2 Remake, and I thought that was great. Probably similar to the Final Fantasy 7 remake, too. Oh well.

Yeah, they crowdfunded... started developing... their re-imagining went beyond what was pitched in the crowdfunding and wasn't staying true to the original game as promised... then they started over.

That was the right thing to do, but they have made other major PR blunders such as their kickstarter updates are pretty much nothing but concept art, and the demo they released several months ago (I imagine this announcement is a slightly more polished version of the same demo) was only for Steam, which pissed off a lot of us backers, myself included.

Yes. It's playing pretty well now.

Hope they continue to stay on track then. Would love this to be successful. Shot's are looking nice.
