Game ran and looked glorious on my 1070ti. With that said however, combat is not there yet. Shooting works but as basic as you could imagine. Melee combat is rough. Looking forward to those improvements.

You are making it sound like you enjoyed the inventory Tetris! Easily the worst part of that game.

No, I also thought it was the worst part. I didn't like most of the mechanics introduced in SS2. But there were a lot of them.
I solved the inventory issue by dropping everything that wouldn't fit in the elevator, so it was always within reach.

First time I started playing SS2, I start roaming around the ship, super quiet, nothing going on. Just some machinery going, computers chirping, etc. Started listening to an audio log, then right behind me, " I'M SORRY!". Turned around to see this psycho attacking me.

In that level with crates all over or something in the dark, one of the droids scared the crap out of me and made threw my PS/2 mouse up in the air during the middle of the night. D:

Never played SS1. Loved SS2.
Is SS1 worth it?

If you liked SS2 for it's world and story and open gameplay style then you would really like SS1 too. If I recall SS2 kind of narrowed down some of the mechanics in comparison to SS1.

Either way, I enjoyed both quite a lot.
I really hated SS1's controls when I tried it back in the days. SS2 was rad.

Definitely better than the previously released alpha/demo, but the slowdown issues are still there, whenever I'd open a door the game would slow to a crawl for a few seconds then spring back to normal speed. Still, definitely enjoying it overall, though yikes I died in the exact same spot I did the first time I played SS1... you'd think I would learn after all these years.

Yeah, because you spend more time in the elevator than anywhere else in the game with all the stupid backtracking!

it was nostalgic, but I don't see playing through the full game more than once.

Thanks to you and Wolfen for the feedback.
I loved SS2 and played it through 4 times over the years. Just loved the err.... atmosphere so, I am curious as to why you consider SS1 worthy of just 1 play through? Or are you just referring to the remake?

Also does the remake have mouse look?

Yes, the remake has mouse look. It's not that tied to the original design.

For replay, I was just referring to the remake. I already replayed the original several times over back in the day. But now I have a ton of games waiting to be played, and it seems wasteful to go through this over and over again if nostalgia's the only thing going for it. SS2 does have different builds going for it, this not so much.

Sound design wasn't as much of a thing in 1994, and there was a lot more atmospheric noise in the demo than the original game, but even so SS1 was much less a horror game than SS2, and more in the direction of shootiness. It's not DOOM by any means, but there's way less survival horror going on. It's very exploration-heavy, though, which I liked.

If you've played Bioshock, I think it's much more similar to this than to SS2, although the maps in SS2 are much, much bigger (again, a lot of exploration).

Mouse look? You mean the ability to look all the way around in a 360 sphre around you with the mouse, then yes.

Hmm... I'm concerned that I see a post saying the same slow down that occurs after playing for a certain length of time still occurs in this, just as it did back in the 2017 demo.

EDIT: Download finished... says it's Unreal... that's extremely odd that it would have the same slowdown issues as when it was on Unity. Guess I'll have to play with it this weekend to see for myself.
