Steam Play Next Launches

Valve announces the success of one of their Steam Labs experiments, saying they've now officially launched the Play Next feature for all users. As the name suggests, this will recommend something to try next from games already in your library:
Earlier this year, Experiment 008: Play Next entered the Steam Labs for testing. Using machine learning to make informed suggestions, the feature is designed to help users with extensive libraries decide which of their games they should play next.

Based on positive feedback from customers, Play Next has proved successful enough to graduate from the Lab. With today's Steam Client update, that functionality is now integrated into the Steam Library.

Users who have un-played (or very low playtime) games in their library, will now have a Play Next shelf available in the library view.

My results are fairly crap also. I figure it's because my kids play way more than I do. No, I don't want to play Farming Simulator. Give me a checkbox "exclude family games in calculations". Still neat though.

I like the idea but it's crap for me. It says play Skyrim SE next/first even though I've had Skyrim with all dlc content for years and played 1000 hours.
If I tried to play Skyrim SE for 1000 hours I wouldn't have time to play anything else for at least 2 months.
Next it says The Witcher 2 even though I haven't play Witcher 1 on Steam. The same with Divine Divinity 2 is 3rd recommendation but never play DD on Steam.

Well it must have read my mind somehow. The only three games I've been playing are Pillars of Eternity mainly, Arma3 with friends, and American Truck Sim. I just finished PoE, and want to start PoE2, but I was going to take a short break and knock some short games off my backlog. It recommended the exact two games I had in mind, The Talos Principle and The Turing Test, both are first person puzzle games, which are nothing like what I've been playing.

Hmm, my top recommendation was Borderlands: GOTY Enhanced, because I've played Borderlands: GOTY. And my next recommendation was Bioshock: Remastered, because I played Bioshock for roughly 4 hours before abandoning it.

I certainly wouldn't call the recommendations a slam dunk, but at least they don't seem random.

The AI also takes into account the type of game you played (FPS) and its popularity (both have high ratings via user reviews). Playing for 4 hours may not be seen as a "success," so it does need some tweaking. Depending on a type of game, 10 hours might provide better accuracy.

Yeah the Steam Labs stuff has been a pretty big success so far IMO. I got some pretty solid recommendations from this already. Gogo machine learning I guess?

Must say I´m very impressed with the AI of their "Play Next" hints.

In a 1200 game library, a lot are favourite played before I bought them on Steam, figuring as never played.

Steam discerned my tastes really well, suggesting my "unplayed" very best favourites and new games that truly interest me and I had misplaced or forgotten in the glut.
Great and useful !
