Out of the Blue

It's our first spring living by the nearby pond, so as the noisy flurry of mating season abated I started making uneducated guesses about when we'd start seeing the first waterfowl offspring. I won the first sighting battle the other day while I was assembling the grill when I spotted a pair of ducklings. But yesterday MrsBlue won the war when she saw a pair of geese showing off their 11 new goslings. And for extra credit, she got a picture of the whole brood, who are too cute for words. I saw a recent Facebook post from a friend with an annual goose family who noted they have so many because lots of them get picked off by predators, but I'll try and ignore that aspect of the law of the jungle for the moment and wish them all the best. Honk, honk!

Ignore the fat turtles and bloated carp, The lessened gosling count is not related.
Wow, 11 eggs in a nest. I had no idea.

Yes, but dogs can - and should - be trained out of those chase/prey instincts. I had a German Shepherd who was tolerant of critters because that's how he was trained. I know a lot of other people with dogs the same way.

Wow, imagine being in the ocean and one of those Spinos coming at you.

Near miss runway incursion and landing on a taxiway at a major airport? If Harrison Ford was some random schmoe he would have already lost his pilot's license. Then add in a fuel loss emergency landing in a plane, and a helicopter emergency landing? Lol!

Harrison is about at the age my dad was when we started doing whatever we could to keep him from driving a car.

If you'd read the article, you'd know that Uranus leaks when the solar wind passes.

I love NBC Nightly News Kids Edition. So cute. The latest episode was fun, and it gave me an idea that I could video my niece and nephew and play board games with them. I think they have the same games I have. We can split the board. Half on my side, half on their side. That would be fun.

This little girl loves garbage trucks. She and her mom bake cookies for the drivers. "Cookies and wahter," she says. Such a heartwarming story.

Swedish city to dump tonne of chicken manure in park to deter visitors.

Wait, I thought Sweden had decided to stay open for COVID-19? Let's see how that's working out for them:

Deaths:
- Norway (closed): 209
- Finland (closed): 211
- Sweden (open): 2,586

It is kinda of a mixed bag so far. They are worse than their Scandinavian neighbors, but better than the UK, Spain, and Italy. Time will tell...

almost certainly due to population density. ima hazard a guess sweden's pop density is something like 1/2 to 1/4 that of the european powers.

Certainly a possible factor, a couple of the articles I read mentioned a high rate of single person residences in Sweden.

Yup, Sweden has twice the land mass of GBR, with one sixth the population. So 12x less population density. Stockholm is less than a million people, while London is 8M. Sweden's per capita death rate is worse than the US at this point: 23 per 100K vs US at 17 per 100K.
