Desperados III in June

THQ Nordic announces Desperados III is shooting for a June 16th release for the Windows and console editions of this hardcore tactical stealth sequel set in the wild, wild west. They illustrate the news with a new trailer showing protagonist John Cooper in action. They note that the game is now available for preorder on the Official Website, an advance commitment that will get you the Deluxe Edition for the price of the Standard Edition. Word is: "The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Desperados III season pass with 3 DLCs, each featuring a brand-new mission. These DLCs will be released post-launch in 2020 and tell the story of a new adventure after the events of the main game. The Digital Deluxe Edition will also contain a special extended edition of the Original Soundtrack that features 75 high quality tracks for a total of 150 minutes of music." Here's the description of the game:
Desperados III is a story-driven, hardcore tactical stealth game, set in a ruthless Wild West scenario. In this long-awaited prequel to the beloved classic Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, John Cooper will join forces with the runaway bride Kate, the shady hitman Doc McCoy, the giant trapper Hector, and Isabelle, a mysterious lady from New Orleans. On Cooper’s quest for redemption, his adventures lead him and his gang from rural towns, over swamps and riverbanks, and finally to a dramatic showdown worthy of Wild West legends.

Play smart if you want to succeed. A good plan can make the difference between survival and finding yourself at the business end of a pistol. Combine your team’s special skills to overcome each tough challenge in your own style.

Features

  • Play five unique characters, each with a very particular set of skills
  • Experience true freedom of choice with countless different ways to overcome any obstacle
  • Defeat large groups of enemies with careful planning and execution
  • Witness the glory of classic Wild West scenarios like frontier towns, mysterious swamps, sprawling modern cities, and many more
  • Choose between non-lethal and deadly attacks, stealth and blazing guns
  • Adjust the game to your playstyle with various difficulty settings and special replay challenges
  • The Showdown mode allows you to pause the game anytime and react to ambushes or surprise attacks

I don't think Shadow Tactics is that linear, with the exception of the final part of the last level. There are so many different combos with the characters' various skills and a player just needs to be creative.

Whatever the case, Desperados III looks like an interesting evolution of Shadow Tactics. It looks to have more gunfights (which makes sense for the setting). I always wait for reviews, but I am definitely keeping a close eye on it.

I made it to the last level of Shadow Tactics. That level had the one-way-to-go thing you guys talk about and I indeed got into a corner I couldn't get out unless I restarted the map. I never finished the game and it soured my taste.

I like the Desperados setting way more. Happy to hear it's here next month.

While there may have been one good way, I always managed to find my way through Shadow tactics even if I had to kill one guard at a time.

That is usually my approach. I know there are plenty of ways to go more tactical and avoid killing, but I prefer to leave no one alive and no one knowing about it. It's more satisfying I swear, in Commandos 2, there are some levels with like 100 Nazi guards walking about. In 1 room, I'd have like 95 dead bodies stored as I make my way towards the last 5.

The company that made Shadow Tactics knows the genre well and I can't think of anyone else better suited to make a Desperados sequel and I wish, Commandos 4.

Looks like Shadow Tactics. I enjoyed Shadow Tactics, at least the concept of it. Part way through, though, it became obvious that there was usually one good way to solve the "problem" of that level. Once you deviated, you ended up in a dead-end that meant you would either have to get really lucky or you'd have to start over. It lost its luster after that. I'll put this on the radar. If it truly (as opposed to PR-speak) has multiple approaches to each level, I might pick it up...
