Free and Free-to-Play Games Roundup

Here's a roundup of some games that are free to keep and some that are free-to-play for the weekend (thanks SteamDB). One of these is a free weekend for DCS: UH-1H Huey on Steam, so we also should point out that a Sunday will mark the beginning of DCS Fly Everything for Free event (thanks Olaf). This will last for an entire month so that's your heads up to dig out your joystick if you're interested. Here's the list of freebies, including some that have already been mentioned here for completeness:

Ahh, perfect! Thanks. :-)

I thought $26 for both those games (coincidentally, the only CoD games I'm really interested in) was a good deal.

Huh, worked for me fine, no tweaking. My proc is going on 9 years old at this point too.

Well that's unfortunate... I tried one of the previous JC games (not sure if 2 or 3), and it felt like an Open World Playground instead of a game, but I was turned off pretty quick, so didn't end up really getting a feel for it.

JC 4 though... I binged the shit out of... Played all day Thursday, half the day Friday and Saturday, focusing on the missions, ignoring the challenges, and enjoyed the process quite a bit. Enjoyed the story, and the voice acting, for the most part.

Had some issues with some of the controls, and it felt like a (so bad) console port at times... Almost just said fuck it and threw it out after fumbling with the menu initially.

And this is why the free games stuff can work... It's a game I would never have bought, but now I'm curious about #5, if that happens... Not like, a launch purchase, but definitely an eventual purchase.

Shows as 70GB for me. Still a lot, but, like 36% of 192GB.

I purchased the Digital Legacy version, which included Modern Warfare. I was installing from the purchase screen, so it was trying to install Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare, and Multiplayer: 192 GB. From the Library menu, the games are listed separately. Just installing Infinite Warfare from the left nav menu on the Library screen is showing 101,222 MB required. How are you getting only 70GB?

Windows
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit or later
Processor: Intel Core i3-3225 @ 3.30GHz or equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 70 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 11 Compatible
Additional Notes: Disk space requirement may change over time.

My guess is that "minimum" is probably Modern Warfare, and the whole thing is a stupid misrepresentation, as in it's "technically true."

Or it's just a mistake.

Complaint: Steam's recommendation system sucks.

I clock on Bloons TD6, not because I'm interested in the game, but to see what other TD games they might recommend. However, in the "More Like This" section, not a single other game is a TD game.

I play Bloons on mobile. Best TD series, by far.

I almost had a seizure watching the video that runs on the Steam store page.

Also, the best TD series is the Defense Grid series.

The monkey and balloons theme seems dumb, but these games have a lot of depth. And the challenges take a lot of careful planning.

Oh, I don't doubt that. It's just all the bright colors and flashing stuff was turning me off. Also, the I like the sci fi theme of DG. Creston, IIRC, was a fellow DG addict. We had a couple thousand hours between us, I think.

I think this will be my next TD I pick up: Creeper World 3

Would have had no chance leaning it but my Dad worked it out by flying every day for a month and gave me the crib notes on how to trim it and keep it vaguely in control and not tearing up the transmission/engine whatever, otherwise it's like the old Bell in Flightsim, good for takeoff and flying fast but the second you want to slow, hover or land trouble! Can't wait for supercarrier the navy planes are already the most fun in DCS. F14 is the closest I'll get to a macross plane and I will never learn any of the fancy systems but that dosn't matter as getting them traps (Occasionally succesfully) is the most fun ever.

You might know this already but DCS is going to have a free "try and fly" MONTH starting tomorrow. The only two planes that won't be free to fly are the F-14 and the Saab Viggen. Everything else will be ready for takeoff at a button press.

In view of last months response, we are pleased to announce our upcoming Free For All event, starting April 19th, where you are welcome to try any and all our products (except campaigns) for free and without limitation for one month. This unlimited access to all our suite of products, including our top fighter jets, such as the F-16C, F/A-18C and A-10C Warthog will help take your mind off things for a while, giving you the opportunity to try something new, and to own it for 50% or less than the normal price.*

*Exclusions and comments:

All campaigns, F-14B and AJS-37 Viggen will not take part. JF-17 Thunder will have a 15.00 USD discount.

Unfortunately, the only one I don't have is the F-14. It doesn't look like it will be discounted, either, so I guess I'll wait a little longer. It takes so long to get competent at flying any of the airframes that I can afford to wait for a deal, even if it takes years.
