Following the recent discovery of an ESRB listing for Saints Row: The Third Remastered comes an official announcement from Deep Sliver. They offer an Announce Trailer and say the updated version of the open-world action game will arrive on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on May 22nd. Word is this features new models for every weapon, new textures for every car, and updated graphics for most of the original game and its DLC. Here's the deal:
Nine years after its original release, Deep Silver today announces that Saints Row®: The Third™ has been completely updated and enhanced to current gen specs and will release as Saints Row: The Third Remastered for the Xbox One, PlayStation®4 and PC on May 22, 2020.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered has received a full makeover courtesy of Sperasoft. Every weapon has been remodeled, every car has been redesigned, and a vast proportion of the city has been retextured all sparkly and new with over 4,000 assets updated to match current gen fidelity. Saints Row: The Third Remastered features retextured environments, character models and visual effects, enhanced graphics and a new lighting engine.

In addition, all three expansion packs and more than 30 pieces of DLC from the original version have been remastered and are included for hours of additional gleeful mayhem. The remastered edition will inspire new gamers and original fans to revisit the reworked city of Steelport and revel in the glorious world of the Saints.

About Saints Row: The Third Remastered:

Saints Row: The Third Remastered gives you control of the Saints at the height of their power, and you live the life to show for it. This is your city. These are your rules. Remastered with enhanced graphics, Steelport the original city of sin has never looked so good as it drowns in sex, drugs, and guns.

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks, and Johnny Gat bobblehead dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute.

Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control. Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and fight against a highly trained military force by your lonesome in the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen.

Key Features:

  • The Full Package, Remastered – With enhanced graphics, improved lighting, reworked environments, and visual effects, Steelport and The Third Street Saints have never looked so good.
  • City of Sin – Disrupt and dismantle the Syndicate stranglehold on weapons, cybercrime, and criminal rackets. Discover the secrets of Steelport, where there is action on every street corner, for better or, more likely, worse.
  • Weapons of Crass Destruction – It’s one thing to defeat your enemies. It’s another to humiliate them. Hover jets, human cannonball cars and outrageous melee weapons are all part of the fun.
  • Crazy Character Customization – Create the most outlandish characters ever seen, from washed-up celebrities to mask-less ninja pirates. Inside every sinner, there is a Saint. Who will you become?
  • Over The Top Co-op – Fly solo or play online with a homie. Give freefall skydiving a try, landing in your partner’s flaming pickup as you make a desperate run toward a heavily armed Syndicate base. Steelport is always more fun with a friend.
  • All DLC included – All three expansion packs and more than 30 pieces of DLC from the original version are included in this massive Saints package, all for the low MSRP of $39.99.

I still prefer the SR2 to all the rest. The Third was fun, but will live in infamy for killing off Johnny Gat.

Edit: Well, didn't notice it was EGS exclusive. Looks like I won't be getting it anyway.

2 still took itself too seriously for my tastes. Felt like GTA with a little humor added in. 3 went off the rails and made it insane fun for me. 4 is garbage.

Wish they had done the Second one instead...as that was by far the best of them IMO.

Third was fairly good, fourth sucked balls (though not as much as the DLC's for it).

Or how about #5, without all the super power BS and a decent engine? As i'm not sure if prettier graphics is enough to bring me back.

Though TBH, just give me a new GTA with FULL co-op support and i'll be happy.

It looks like they just threw on ReShade and called it a remaster.

That said, as someone who loved this game even I don't know that I care about a remaster. The graphics were never an issue in the first place.

That's pretty much what I was thinking as well. I had my fun with it and I don't see myself ever re-playing this, so I'm definitely not going to buy it. I might give it a look if it's free for owners of the original.

I think The Third was considered to be one of the better titles in this series?

1 was a pretty straight GTA ripoff. The jokes felt stale (GTAs aren't really great, either), and everything felt a bit hollow. However, some of the quality of life upgrades were so much better. In GTA, you spend tons of money upgrading a car, park it, run off, can't find it, never see it again. In SR, it's always waiting for you in a garage. I liked it much, much more than GTA.

2 was a huge step forward in plot, world building, and going from the shadow of GTA. Excellent game.

3 was insanity, and I loved it.

Well that certainly does look like they put a lot of effort to truly remaster it. The graphics look noticeably improved.

Can't say that for some other remasters that have been released where they either simply "sharpen" up the textures/graphics and leave the interface outdated and terrible. Those are quick money grabs.

Even the general idea of a remaster is a money grab but how much effort they put in goes ways to show whether they actually cared to remaster it or not.

Apparently 1 year EGS exclusive on PC, 30fps locked on console version.

Well. Looks like I'll be keeping my money then!

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

So much insanity, so much chaos. It is without question in my mind, the best of them.

I thought it was hilarious....from having Hulk Hogan and Burt Reynolds doing their part to make it an absolute riot.

That said, I can't see myself ever revisiting it. I'm not sure updating the graphics and engine really adds enough value for a 20 hour replay..
