Not sure if Tabbletop sim is getting a huge boost from nerds like me who bought it to substitute for canceled game nights or flow on from being a VR program riding Alyx's coat-tails or it's generous sale price, probably a combination of all 3 and still cool eithere way! Hopefully this economy shutdown goes on long enough to finish this gloomhaven campaign.

I don't want to take a dump on Alyx because I never played it myself and maybe in time I will (not interested in VR at the moment. Not a $$$ issue, more of a space issue).

With that said, beating Black Mesa last night made me realize what a revolutionary company Valve was at the time that they put out Half Life. Taking away the better graphics in Black Mesa, the level design is still there from Valve regarding the puzzles/pacing, encounters and it's done so perfect. Definitely my #1 FPS of all time. It's probably my 5th overall play through of Half Life 1 in some form and it's never dull. If it's remade in another 20 years, I'll happily do it all over .

Not all VR headsets costs 1k.
And I would guess they are playing the other games or sims that are 1000 times better in VR than on a 2d screen.
Does that answer your question?

It must really burn not being able to enjoy VR. But at least you can still eat from the dollar menu. Yummy.

<I may be slightly altered and find this all funny as Hell>

Meh, I was gonna buy an Index and this, but not waiting 4+ months considering new, better AR hybrid devices are already announced... and Valves 8week order time-frame is a scam by the way, if you are in the EU at least.

I was holding off on VR because I find all the current devices kinda meh, only index was above "meh" but if I can't buy it then I can happily wait for the next better thing.

Luke,

Please do bother to research a little bit.

I know, it´s work, but worth the effort, man !

At the moment there are some 600 quality VR games on Steam, -a lot are premium titles- and more come out every month.

They also include classics (Skyrim, Fallout, Serious Sam, and a long etc.) for a brand new ***re-experience***.

Yep, a good VR experience is almost so far from non VR, as accelerated 3D was from old pixelated games.

****Also you can use VORPX for playing in VR, any number of non VR games.****

It supports both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and surely any head mounted display.

Works with hundreds of DirectX 9, 10 and 11 games.

$400. Quest works great with it. And at that price it's a very reasonable piece of hardware.

It's a pretty great game and definitely sold a lot of VR headsets before COVID-19 destroyed the already stretched supply chain and most peoples wallets. Regardless I'm just happy Valve found their passion and made a genuinely great game again. And hey there are already more VR gamers than Linux gamers so I guess it's the year of VR on the desktop, niche and all Angel

Tabletop Simulator is pretty great for anyone else considering it, tons of community support.

And to comment on another title in the list here, I'm not really enjoying Doom Eternal surprisingly. They really destroyed the pace of the previous game and the over-reliance on the chainsaw/glory kill mechanic feels like they learned all the wrong lessons. I'm going to keep going going but so far so meh.
